Though we're still not sure what's going on with Wonder Woman in live-action, James Gunn has now revealed that he is working on exploring the character's "untapped potential" in animated form...

During the recent DCU slate announcement, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn revealed that a Paradise Lost TV series ("like Game of Thrones but with Amazons") is in the works, but he still hadn't mentioned anything about Wonder Woman herself - until now!

Late last night, Gunn responded to a Tweet wondering when Diana's "untapped potential and stories" will be further explored with the hashtag #WonderWomanAnimatedSeries. The Suicide Squad director said that he was "working on it," before clarifying what he meant in a follow-up Tweet.

"We’re working on getting Wonder Woman into more animation. I agree that there hasn’t been enough of her in that area and was one of the first things I brought up to the animation folks."

We obviously don't have much to go on here, but we do know that all DCU live-action and animated projects will be connected. Gunn has also confirmed that "less than half" of the first chapter, Gods and Monsters, has been unveiled, so we could find out more about this Wonder Woman show fairly soon.

We still don't know if Gal Gadot will reprise the role in the DCU, but her take on the iconic hero will appear in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. If she does stay on as Diana, there's a chance she will also voice the character in animated form.

How about you work on another movie! You’ve got two separate Batman film series in the works concurrently but no Wonder Woman, it’s bullshit. I’m starting to get the sneaking suspicion Gunn isn’t a fan of the character.

@PlusUltra - he probably wants to reboot the character with an actor of his choice tbh

@DaRealCapClunge - Probably, but then he should just do that. He can’t use the excuse it’s too soon either, because again, he’s ready to bring in another Batman so soon after Pattinson to run concurrently along side Pattinson.

@PlusUltra - Since he’s only announced less than half of the first chapter, we don’t know that he’s not working on it. I remember when the DCEU was announcing way too many movies that never came into fruition.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 3/12/2023, 9:41 AM
@RolandD - But what he announced weren’t good, outside of what, Swamp Thing and Superman? He’s building a DC universe, and the first team he’s introducing is Creature Commandos and The Authority. C’mon, that shit is wack.

@PlusUltra - Swamp Thing is the start of Justice League Dark(or Justice Coven or whatever they want to call it) and the Authority might be setting up a Kingdom Come/Elite type storyline. He's announced projects for every founding Justice Leaguer with the exception of Flash and Aquaman who have movies coming out this year. I'd say that's a good start to Chapter 1.

Also, I really don't think he has any choice about Pattinson's Batman getting a sequel.
His choice is to either have two Batman or no Batman in the DCU at all. He made the right choice. It's not the existence of the DCU Batman that is problematic, it's continuing with a now redundant Batman.

@PlusUltra -

He doesn't need to do everything at once.

@ObserverIO - There’s no project for Wonder Woman. She was confirmed not to be in Paradise Lost. So actually, he hasn’t announced projects for more than half the founding members of the League, and relegated one of them, a pioneer of the silver age, to a True Detective copy cat show that somehow doesn’t even lend itself to the epic Green Lantern should be.

Pattinson’s Batman is anything but redundant. In fact, that Batman and movie is the only successful thing DC has done since Joker. The Batman and that shared universe Reeves is building is the one only sure thing DC has actually got going for it.

@PlusUltra - Batman is almost always a sure thing. Why would The Batman Part II be anything more of a sure thing than Brave and the Bold? It's not like the first one exceeded expectations.

Also, we know that DC has been unsuccessful in it's DCEU projects. And that both films that were set in new universes were the only truly successful films (not including Aquaman which made way more money than The Batman of course).
That's why DC Studios was created in the first place. This is the fix to the very problem of the shit universe that nobody wanted to see anymore.

Also, Paradise Lost is telling the history of the Amazons. That's the origin of Wonder Woman. That's setting her up. She will probably be in the last episode or so.

@PlusUltra - and we also know what good and bad Gunn movies look like, so it's easy to imagine what this will be like..... great to godawful
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 3/12/2023, 10:27 AM
@ObserverIO - The first one met expectations, which is more than can be said about the last few movies Batman was in, and a very, very rare thing for a DC movie in general. And Batman has never been a sure thing. They’ve never gotten away with making shit movies with Batman in it. That’s why the first film series sunk, and so did the DCEU. Brave and the Bold is a studio mandated movie with nobody behind it to give anybody any reason to believe that it’ll be anything but just that. We know The Batman and its adjacent shared universe in is in good hands.

Wonder Woman doesn’t need to a Gotham or Smallville, and quite frankly, just sounds like an excuse for Gunn to not make a Wonder Woman movie but instead copy another HBO show.

FireandBlood - 3/12/2023, 10:31 AM
@ProfessorWhy - I’m not worried about the movies Gunn directs himself, that’s fine. But his ideas aren’t great. As good as his Guardians movies are, he made some boneheaded decisions creatively even in regards to those. Just look at what he did to the Nova Corp (and now he’s trying to minimise the GL in a similar fashion.)

@PlusUltra - well who is? Gadot sucks, that doesn't mean Gunn doesn't like the character from comics? Maybe he is just waiting Flash to reboot and recast these lame actors/actresses who shouldn't never even been casted in the first place?
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/12/2023, 1:07 PM
@PlusUltra -
I can actually see where you're coming from, though. You had the last straw with DC and you're only interested in movies that you think might be good, whether or not they're connected to this universe or that universe. They've lost your investment as anything more than a casual fan and I cannot blame you at all.

However, saying "Brave and the Bold is a studio mandated movie" as opposed to The Batman part II is fully backwards. Fully backwards.

DC Studios are now making the movies they want to make. James Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge of all of these decisions. They have to run them by David Zaslav and nobody else.

The only movies that are being made as studio-mandated movies -as movies that David Zaslav is mandating rather than James Gunn or Peter Safran- are Joker: Folie a Deux and The Batman part II.

And as always, it will be this studio interference that will [frick] things up again. They form DC Studios to avoid this kind of meddling and then mandate a Batman movie with a different Batman in a different franchise to come out during the first years of DC Studios, with the real DCU Batman to follow up in the second year and they don't think this is gonna be a cog in the works at all?

The existence of the Robert Pattinson Batman movie undercuts Brave and the Bold and devalues the DCU right from the very start.

@PlusUltra - agreed - recasted or not, Wonder Woman is one third of DC’s Trinity. So put some respect on her name!

Paradise lost, the so called “Game of Thrones with Amazons” sounds so shit, [frick] that. You wanna do your own “gAmE oF tHrOnEs”, use the New Gods instead of making a show about a bunch of women plotting and scheming against each other. Shit sounds more like the Real Amazons of Themyscira, ffs.

I love DC animated but merging live-action with animation is absolutely idiotic in my opinion. I'm not enjoying their new animated stuff that much at all, except for Man of Tomorrow which was pretty great and Green Lantern which was OK even with the change to the story, since I'm a Jon Stewart fan over Hal. When DC live-action wasn't great I still had the animated stuff which I've rewatched many times but Gunn is now putting all his eggs in one basket and I think this future of DC in both live-action and animated will freaking suck and turning WW into a cartoon character is just another reason why.

@WarMonkey - They’re trying to do what Star Wars did with Clone Wars. Make of that what you will. Personally, it’s something that could work, but that should come later, not kickstart this shit. You don’t put the cart before the horse.
