WONDER WOMAN Sequel Lassos A 2019 Release Date; Both Gal Gadot & Patty Jenkins Expected To Return

Wonder Woman has had quite the summer, and now that it has firmly established itself as the summer's biggest domestic earner as well as the DC Films Universe's highest domestic grosser, Warner Bros. has officially announced that the highly anticipated sequel, tentatively titled Wonder Woman 2, will arrive in theaters just in time for Christmas on December 13, 2019.

Gal Gadot will definitely be back and the studio is currently in negotiations with Patty Jenkins to return to direct. DC Films head honcho Geoff Johns also recently revealed that he and Jenkins had already started working on the sequel's script, so it's probably a safe bet to say that she'll be back in the director's chair whenever production picks up.

Plot details will remain under wraps for the foreseeable future, but it's been rumored that the film may once again be set in the past.

Looking ahead at the release calendar to December 13, there is little competition at the moment, but there is a possibility that the film will face heavy competition from an Untitled Fox/Marvel film (November 22) and Frozen 2, which opens two just weeks prior. On another note, there are now four DC films, including Wonder Woman 2, slated for release in the 2019 calendar year. The first of the bunch is widely rumored to be Shazam!, which arrives on April 5, 2019, followed by Untitled DC Films on June 14, 2019 and November 1, 2019.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers...and her true destiny.

@Kenny58 - more likely they realize they need to strike while the iron is hot and get another sequel out as soon as possible. This date makes sense as it gives time for the story to be developed as well as figure out exactly where they want to take the character and the DCEU.
