Feature Opinion

In case you hadn't noticed, it's MovieMaster writing this article instead of ComicBuzz, who usually contributes in this subject. Well he has handed me the reigns to this feature and it's not my responsibility to write future installments of the series (kinda, we share the feature now)!

Today we are looking at the fan reaction towards the announcement of X-Men: First Class and see if they feel any different now. As we all know, the movie was so extremely hated here on CBM that it basically created a law that if you don't hate on the movie then you're not welcome. Obviously, that all changed when they saw the movie and then they obviously said that they had praised the movie all along, they had believed in it etc etc...

Firstly, we look at the announcement of Bryan Singer as director of the movie. RorMachine posted the article on the 16 of December 2009, and a video found it's way online of Bryan Singer announcing his appointment as director of the movie. That video has since been deleted, but the scoop was emailed to Ror by a CBMer named Erickz and here is the email in question:

dude, I was watching the live stream for 'Avatar' on myspace and Bryan Singer just popped up on the red carpet. And they asked what projects he has coming up and he mentioned he is doing 'Jack the Giant Killer' but the moment that shocked me was...right after he said that, he also stated that just yesterday he signed the deal to do the 'X-Men: First Class movie.' And when they told him they were broadcasting live, he made the face of "oh sh*t".So I guess he is returning to the franchise. Anyway, I just had to tell you that so you can post it up or something. And man. I'm not lying here. O had to come and tell another comic book freak like me. Hope this information helps.

Pretty interesting 'ey? And that article can be found
HERE! Now lets look at some of the CBMers comments about that...

As for Singer, no. We need something fresh, I'm tired of the X-Men/Homosexual allegory and that seems to be his only take on the franchise, so I hope they find a new director. Allegory is great and X-Men is ripe for it, but just not the same one over and over. Give us new take.

Nooooooooooo!! He has to get away as far as possible from this franchise. He had his chance... he blew it... bring on a more talented director. Raimi+Singer= Superhero killas!

I want to throw myself off a bridge. This guy ruins everything he touches. He has no respect for the source material.

As you can see, the reaction wasn't good. Then it was announced that there had been a mistake and Bryan Singer was NOT directing the movie, only producing it, which made fans heart's everywhere do a little dance. Then, Matthew Vaughan was rumoured to have been offered to direct the movie. He had also been offered to direct the pretty terrible X-Men: The Last Stand but departed a matter of days before filming started, so Fox brought in, *shudders* Brett Ratner. Lets look at some fan reactions to the news, shall we?

And just like that, I'm interested in this movie.

This is great news but even with the involvement of a great director like Vaughn, I still worry about this movie. Plus, they may have offered this to him but I'd be shocked if he actually said yes especially after all his recent comments about the benefits of working more independently as he did with Kick-Ass..!

Regardless, he'd be 1000x better than Bryan Singer! (but then again, who wouldnt be?) :P

I'd rather get my nutz kicked repeatedly then have Fox continue with their terrible terribleness.

Oh great. Now we're going to have Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Professor X foul-mouthin' in the entire film.

Judging from those comments, it's clear that even though Fox were possibly hiring a great director for the movie, they were still worried about the movie (based on comments from Singer on how the movie will be structured). As we all know, he was eventually hired to direct the movie. Production soon picked up steam and had started filming by September of that year. Lets look at some comments from various different articles leading up to the first trailer, shall we?

every comic book movie fox has been part of has been shit, why will this be any different.

singer f*cked up the x-men & superman,do ya still have faith in him.

this is a complete balls up,it was rushed to make a quick buck,be prepared to be dissapointed, its gonna fail big time.

This Movie will suck like a vacuum with the "off" switch broken. I [frick]ing hate Fox!!

This film might be worth watching for her cleavage. Other than that, it's so far shaping up to be yet another Fox piece of shit. :P

Hmmm i detect reasonable amounts of fail from this movie...i wont be cliche and it looks like a car crash.

Not very good are they? As you can see, the fan backlash is pretty severe. On 28 August 2010, Josh Wilding posted an Editorial expressing his belief that First Class would be one of the worst CBM's to date (which you can find HERE) and he was one of the haters of the movie before it's release. Now though, his opinion is completely different! Check it out below...

"It's definitely different...I wish I had never written that stupid editorial! Simply put, I was wrong. It's the best CBM since The Dark Knight!

What do you think? Were you a hater of First Class, or were you feeling it all the way? Do you like or hate the movie? Sound off below, and look out for future installments of CBM News: From The Archives from both me and ComicBuzz!
