DARK PHOENIX: Theater Merchandise Provides A Closer Look At Those NEW X-MEN Inspired Costumes

We know that the X-Men will don some comic accurate costumes in Dark Phoenix next year but some new merchandise provides a much better look at the suits inspired by Grant Morrison's New X-Men run...

X-Men: Apocalypse ended with the team decked out in shockingly comic book accurate costumes but those have been swapped out in Dark Phoenix for versions clearly inspired by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's New X-Men run in the early 2000s. That's not actually a bad thing by any means and while we anxiously wait for the first trailer, some theater merchandise offers a closer look at them.

The video below kicks off with what appears to be a fan-made poster for the sequel (there are telltale signs like Psylocke's inclusion even though Olivia Munn won't appear in Dark Phoenix) and then shows what appears to be cup toppers featuring the likenesses of Beast, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and the X-Jet.

There's nothing major revealed here but it is nice to get a sneak peek of sorts, especially as it's thought Fox won't be bringing the movie to Comic-Con. Dark Phoenix was originally set to be released this November but extensive reshoots have resulted in it being pushed back to next February. What do you think of these new costumes? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section down below.

I do want to see this film, it has some of my interest. But it seems like at this point the most I can get is half-invested in this movie, for obvious reasons.

@ExpertlyMediocr - yea ever since that trailer, it's been eliminated from everybody's radar.

@Kman - im a die hard xmen fan and would love to see it. problem now is if its as good as logan, deadpool, and dofp it wont matter becuz disney is rebooting it either way.

i loved all 3 raimi spiderman films and thought homecoming was a bland remake. dont have a lot of faith in the mcu xmen if its going to be like homecoming.

Guess those set photos were real and that plot description was somewhat accurate about the X-Men going to space to save some sort of space shuttle carrying astronauts.

@L0RDbuckethead - A space shuttle carrying 5 now unique individuals?!?!

I like those costumes, but its freakin 90s, why not use the jim lee design? On the other hand, they can do those once feige gets his hand on the property.

@rebellion - I dont think this current cast has the look to pull off the Jim Lee designs, especially Cyclops

@Himura - gotta agree with you on that

@rebellion @Himura - i think its the #metoo movement. girls and guys dont want to be sexualized anymore. xmen:apoc got a lot of flack for psylocke's comic accurate costume and jlaw has been outspoken of not wanting to be nude anymore. If any costume similar to jim lee's comes out, it will be more tone deaf, bulky, and covered up like the MCU costumes. I always thought the MCU costumes were great but somewhat lacking. obviously they still put in more effort than fox though.

@BlindWedjat - This is amazing. Thank you. It will now be my phone background.

P.S. - Bey is the only one who could take out Thanos, maybe the Avengers should reach out.

@L0RDbuckethead - I always thought it was weird that if the Avengers were earths mightiest heroes they didn't even bother to call Beyonce for help vs Thanos but I guess in these movies you need a certain suspension of belief.

I like them on both Jean and Scott. But I wish they altered it in beast. Something is just off about it. I think if they exposed his fore arms and gave him shorts it would look better.
Dotanuki
Dotanuki - 7/3/2018, 11:47 AM
@StormXmen123 - Beast looks off to me because he's just a regular sized guy. He should be bigger, more muscular or something. He's just a hair blue guy in this iteration.
StormXmen123

Or something a bit more like this?

Dotanuki

@L0RDbuckethead - It's certainly an improvement. Didn't he at least have some upper body prosthetic in the other movies to give him a barrel chest?

@Dotanuki - I would assume so.

I'm not being negative... Or at least, I'm trying not to.

But these just basically look like the same old black leather costumes with a big yellow X on the chest. It's a step up (and I'm sure people who loved Morrison's New X-Men are salivating.) But it's still not really there.

And luckily, it seems like it will be the last chance Fox gets. (Fingers crossed on wood.)
