DON'T LOOK UP Star Jennifer Lawrence On Hollywood Hiatus: "I Just Think Everybody Had Gotten Sick Of Me"

Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Dark Phoenix) will return after a lengthy hiatus for Netflix's Don't Look Up, and the actress has now spoken candidly about taking a break from Hollywood.

At one point, Jennifer Lawrence was one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, but the Academy Award-winner decided to take a hiatus shortly after the release of 2019's X-Men: Dark Phoenix, in which she reprised the role of Mystique for the last time.

This came after a string of movies which were generally seen as box office disappointments (Dark Phoenix, mother! and Passengers), and Lawrence feels that a certain amount of overexposure may have been to blame.

"I was not pumping out the quality that I should have," she admitted during an interview with Vanity Fair. "I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?’… I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life. Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: ‘Okay, I said yes, we’re doing it. Nobody’s mad.’ And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.”

It was impossible to ignore some of the online negativity surrounding Lawrence's later projects, and it didn't just come from the fans, as several prominent media outlets also had the knives out. Absence does tend to make the heart grow fonder, however, and Lawrence will soon return for Adam McKay's sci-fi satire Don't Look Up.

What do you guys make of Lawrence's comments? Are you looking forward to her comeback? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place, and you can also check out Jennifer's VF photoshoot at the link below.
