X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX: Professor X And Magneto Reunite For A Familiar Game In Reshoot Set Photos

We've already seen a clash between Jean Grey and Jessica Chastain's mysterious villain but the latest photos from X-Men: Dark Phoenix reshoots show Professor Xavier and his old friend Erik playing chess...

We still know next to nothing about X-Men: Dark Phoenix and while it was recently reported that a trailer for the movie was shown to Fox execs, there appears to be no sign of that arriving online in the near future (unless Fox surprises us all and pairs it with Venom). Now, with reshoots taking place, the franchise's final instalment could very well be unrecognisable to what we saw in EW last year.

Something which will be familiar to fans is Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) playing chess. As you can see in these photos from Dark Phoenix's ongoing reshoots, the two old friends/enemies will once again sit down for a game but seeing as Erik seemingly decided to become a hero at the end of Apocalypse, who knows how much their dynamic will have changed.

After all, it's been said that Magneto will be ruling over Genosha when we meet him again here so chances are
writer and director Simon Kinberg will recycle the old story of having him faced with tragedy and then deciding to become a villain!

What do you think might be in store for these characters in X-Men: Dark Phoenix before they're rebooted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Why does this film and the whole X-Men/Mutant franchise just feel so slow all of a sudden?

Anyone else have that feeling?

@MosquitoFarmer - Kinda sad they might not reunite in the MCU. The two of them have been the best things of the new X-Men films.

@Doomsday8888 @BlindWedjat - They truly are buddy-buddy, which makes their chemistry so great. Same way as Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart.

@Doomsday8888 -

Can't say I'll miss them.

They really needed to move on from the Magento is a good guy/bad guy routine and I'd have hoped him killing millions in the last film would have solidified him as a villain (even though it seemed like nothing to Charles) but I guess we're back to the same thing again.

Thank god it will be the last time with stories like these.

Why not go on the wild side and play some checkers.

@ThePeterCipher - Trying to play games with Fassbender doesn't always end well.

They still don't age? Magneto should at least have grey hair by now.

@Odin - Probably going with that stupid idea mutants age slower. Which means they will somehow...have a grow spout and become old men, possibly overnight.
