Talking to
Hit Fix, Lauren Shuler Donner talked less about
X-Men: First Class (although you can find out her reaction to it's initially disappointing opening weekend by clicking on the link below) and more about the current status of both
The Wolverine and
Deadpool. The former will be directed by James Mangold, and has been delayed a fair few times now, as filming was originally expected to begin this year. While they may have the script in place, and everyone raring to go, it appears the movies actual schedule is still unclear.
"[We want] to distinguish it from the other one. It's much more of a standalone [movie]. I'm not sure when we'll start," she said. "Maybe summer 2012 we'll start shooting. It's based on Hugh's schedule, frankly. When he's available, we'll film...He's doing 'Les Miserables', and then he has to come and train for us. So it's all dependent on him."
And what of
Deadpool? We know that Tim Miller has signed up to direct it, but it's yet another project which has been plagued with delays, mainly caused by Ryan Reynolds' busy schedule with other movies. So, is the actor still Fox's top choice to play the Merc with a Mouth?
"Absolutely, yeah. I can't imagine...who else could play Wade Wilson? We're working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we're gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It's a different kind of movie. If you know 'Deadpool'...it's true to 'Deadpool'. So you know, it'll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that. So we're sort of putting it all together now."
"Yes he was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film and yes we will redeem him. But I'm pretty excited. We have a good script and a good director," she added in a separate interview with
Total Film.
