While the previous director Bryan Singer found interest in stars from the overrated Twilight franchise, fans immediately disfavored the possibility of Taylor Lautner joining Mathew Vaughn's upcoming X-Men: First Class. But now apparently one the vampires is mutating over into the X-Men prequel anyway.

According to the infamous Deadline, Edi Gathegi, who played the evil vampire "Laurent" in Twilight is in negotiations to join X-Men: First Class in the role of Darwin.

Via Marvel, the character Darwin limitless mutation abilities being in a state of continual reaction, adapting to whatever his current situation demands. For example, if placed in total darkness his eyes automatically adapt to allow him to see; if underwater he grows functioning gills; if exposed to fire his body becomes fireproof; if falling, his bones soften & his body elasticizes to cushion his landing; or if exposed to the void of space, he stops requiring oxygen & the density of his skin & internal structure increase.

Gathegi joins a growing ensemble including James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast),Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Lucas Till (Havok), and Kevin Bacon, as a villain whose yet to be revealed.

With Mathew Vaughn's direction, X-Men: First Class begins production next month in London, hitting theaters June 3rd next year.

Josh: Ew Is still reporting that the studios are releasing the name of characters that may or may not be in the movie in order to keep fans suprised when they see the film.

I'm guessing that they are rebooting this completely.

Just because it is called "First Class", that doesn't mean it's a direct adapation of the comic, it just takes the name, and it is X-Men: First Class, just the first class of the movie universe, so just please let it go that Iceman and Angel won't be in it. X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man and the rest have so many diffrent story and characters to draw from, it combines diffrent elements to create it's own universe, it isn't like Scott Pilgrim or Kick Ass were their is only one story and a direct adapation.

But Darwin is an interesting mutant and like the possibilities of him in the movie. Sounds like a good choice. Actually excitted for this movie, hope it does well.

lol at people thinking its a reboot, Wolverine 2 is coming soon and so is the Deadpool film, you guys really think they are gonna reboot it? LMAO.

@Intruder, why the [frick] did they make the cartoon then? lol Why the [frick] do they make different universes in the comics? Why the [frick] do they retcon shit all the time? lol Its not part of the comic book universe, do you not get that? EVERY UNIVERSE IS DIFFERENT. hopefully caps lock will help you understand.

What the [frick]?!? Are they trying to include Moira's attempt at an X-Team (this being the one who failed to rescue the original team from Krakoa, save Cyclops, and paid for it with their lives)... How many arcs are they gonna cram in?

@EVERYBODY: Can we pass judgement AFTER we've seen the movie?

After all, we're all gonna see it, regardless of things not ending up on our favor, like storyline, characters, costumes, etc...

I understand Intruder, and anybody here. It just goes to show how we love CBMs, and X-Men for that matter, but i wouldn't be to harsh as to judging the efforts made to adapt our favorite mutants to the big screen, which is, by the way, not an easy task.

Twilight is truly awful, but I don't mind that he was in Twilight, sure it is a terrible francise and a waste of money, but the guy needed a job and their is nothing wrong with taking a job when you need money. But now he can move on and do good films. He did do a great job in his small role in Gone Baby Gone and on his few episodes of House. So I have faith in his acting.

I like the direction they are taking this movie, it gives us more interesting mutants and the ones chosen so far sound interesting and can't wait to see how they fit together. They aren't going with the traditional path and making their own X-Men universe, while respeting what came before and are adding the characters that will make for the best and most interesting story.

@MTL:...Um, maybe you have a point. I'm not gay, but that Pattinson fellow is dreamy ;) In fact i litterally I had a dream once, that him and I were engaged in a perfectly heterosexual, buddy-to-buddy bubble-bath :D Except it wasn't a tub of water - it was a fine sparkling spiced-cider. And I wasn't me, I was Richard Gere but I was in a Mr. Peanut suit. And Robert (or, 'Uncle Fulcrum' as he prefered) was wearing a sailor hat. Just a sailor hat. We had a mutual understanding that everything was strictly platonic - as neither one of us are gay. Well, he kinda is I think - I can't speak for the guy. But it's cool. It was so weird, once I woke up, I felt... Like more of a man :)

Bare in mind that I'm actually Mark Ruffalo, as I finally felt up to revealing here a few days ago, now that I'll be playing Brucie B. and the actual Hulk in the Avengers film :)

Still not caring. Still see every announcement of yet another random mutant as exactly what it is - if Fox doesn't use them, then they revert to Marvel.

Prepare to see crowds of mutants who won't have a line to say, but will be referenced by name in the credits.

Matthew Vaughn's involvement does raise the hope-ometer ever so slightly that although it will still be a complete bastardisation, it may at least be a well directed one.
