Channing Tatum May End Up Directing GAMBIT Himself (If It Happens)

An interesting new report surfaced late last week that suggested Channing Tatum may be considering making his directorial debut with 20th Century Fox's long-gestating X-Men spinoff, Gambit. Check it out...

Deadline reported on Friday that Channing Tatum (Logan Lucky) had decided to amicably part ways with his longtime representation at UTA and Management 360 and while that was intriguing enough in itself, their story had one more nugget that should pique the interest of comic book movie fans.

Ever since it was unofficially announced back in early 2014, Gambit has had quite the troubled road to production as every time the project took a step forward, it seemed to take three steps back - which has even warranted the creation of a Wikipedia page solely centered on the film's development.

While the X-Men spinoff has been able to garner interest from big-name directors, no one has yet been able to stick to the project and over the past four years, fans have seen Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), and Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl) depart for various creative reasons.

However, according to Deadline's latest report, it seems that after Verbinski left early last year, Tatum himself may be considering taking the helm of Gambit and making the superhero vehicle his directorial debut.

It's an unprecedented move and considering Disney's pending acquisition of 20th Century Fox it's uncertain if it'll actually happen, but it's certainly an interesting proposition, to say the least.
