How Singer should've cleaned up the X-Trilogy

Never got how they let X-Men: First Class screw things up even worse.

X-Men didn't have to wait till DoFP to clean up all of their mistakes. No surree bob, they could've cleaned it up by introducing an X-Men Origins film.

I'm not happy with, but I somewhat understand, choosing the roster for the X-trilogy. That being said, I have an idea on how the team could've began.

Having Havok and Mystique involved was just not smart.

Bare in mind, my faith in the franchise began fading as of X3, until it completely depleted as of The Wolverine. in defense of The Wolverine, it was more or less running on fumes at that point and I headed into the movie very pessimistic.

If the powers that be called me to save the franchise (hey, you have your mental of insanity and I have mine) I would not have presented the world with X-Men: 1st Class, instead, I would've continued the Origins subtitle with X-Men Origins: Children of the Atom

Some of the ideas in XFC were not bad, and this is from a guy who didn't like the movie enough to ever see it again. That's saying something. For instance, rehashing Magneto's childhood was brilliant. Thing is, Ian Mag-Kellen was born in 1939, so, as Magneto, he was playing 9 years older. Magneto, as shown in X-Men, was 13-15 in 1944. That's fine, really, because he looked bad for his age. Stewert, as Xavier, was born in 1940, I can work with an Xavier that is 10 years younger than his friend.

In X1, Xavier states that he met his greatest enemy when he was 17. That is when they became great friends. There's a great story there.

The opening scene to X1 plays again, almost identical to XFC, except that, no, wait, that reveal comes later. Though, Dr Klaus Schmidt names him Magnus, which is Latin for greatness. He is led to believe himself the first of his kind.

Soon after he escapes the camp, he meets a woman named Magda, with whom he falls in love and has a daughter named Any. One night, when an angry mob, spurred on by a first manifestation of Magnus' powers, burns down their home with Anya still inside. Enraged at the mob for preventing him from rescuing Anya, Magnus' powers manifested uncontrollably, killing the mob and destroying a part of the city. Magda, unaware of his power and terrified at Magnus' power, runs away, turning back only to cry that he is the devil and he will never learn about their new child.

Wanted by the authorities, and in search of Magda, he creates the cover identity of Erik Lehnsherr.

Charles Xavier received a scholarship to Oxford University at age 16, rescuing him from his abusive home, after which he "never looked back". He used his gifts unfairly. He, too, believed himself the first of his kind.

In his travels abroad, he crosses paths with Erik, with a deep connection the 2 become good friends, linked by their good will. They volunteer to help Holocaust victims; Erik sources empathy and Charles secretly uses his telepathy to heal the mental scars of the victims. The 2 never reveal their powers, and Charles seems to use his ability on everyone but Erik, respecting his friend and mentor. Over the years Erik finds peace and chooses not to locate Magda, burying his past with his daughter however, Charles meets Gabrielle.

Time jumps ahead. They are ambushed by the Russian assassin, Arkady Rossovich, who has been given enhanced powers. The 2 reveal to each other and Gabrielle their abilities. At the cost of Gabrielle's life, as well as many patients, they defeat him, Erik appears to kill him. This begins their philosophical debates; Erik, again, finds himself on the run, this time with Xavier. Amidst their travels, they struggle to stay aligned despite their differences.

They create a rudimentary Cerebro in order to search the world for others like them. Erik looks on suspiciously of the telepath, wondering if his privacy is safe. He uses the basic formula for Cerebro to construct a helmet (As a means of protection from Charles) and dubs himself Magneto. He will not be known as the human, Erik Lehnsherr. Instead as the Homo-Superior, Magneto. In the mid-60's, they embark on an secret adventure that leads them to the Hellfire Club where they battle the villains. In the end, their victory occurs when Emma Frost, known in the circle as the White Queen betrays her brethren for Xavier. The 2 telepaths share a sensual, telepathic connection.

The end sees the 3 settling into what will become their mission; unite and guide Homo-Superior.

Dr Schmidt is seen at the end, watching the threesome; he changes into Mr Sinister and grins.

-Xavier brings in Cyclops, the surviving Cuckoo and the others.

-he feared Magneto would only escalate the problem

-In the epic, finale battle, Sinister cripples Xavier and knocks him unconscious. Emma rushes to his rescue and, in saving him, dies.

-Magneto, Beast, Banshee and the twins, aided by the new students, drive the Marauders back. Cyclops beats  Sinister.

-After learning of Stryker and his actions, Magneto parts ways with Xavier. He thought they were brothers. The twins follow Magneto.

-Beast and Banshee are teachers at the Xavier Institute.

-Sinister locates Gambit and promises to deliver peace to the warring guilds so that he may marry Bella Donna. All he must to is kill the Morlocks. When Gambit follows him, the Marauders are right behind them. They walk into a lab and find a bloodied Sabretooth and David Moreau, who, still unconscious, shape shifts into the non-scaled, white dress-wearing Mystique. "These 2 need a bit more before they are ready."

"Why slaughter a group that bothers no one?"

When the First One rises, he mustn't know I've made mistakes."

"Why me?"

"The more I help you, the better chance of surviving the future for me, Cajun."

Need I write more, or is the next chapter obvious?

Not the worst ideas I've ever heard, but it was fine the way they did it. They could've avoided the continuity errors just by having Magneto and Prof. X briefly meeting at 17 and then parting ways. It would have explained how Prof. X was able to calm down Magneto fairly easily when he was trying to kill Schmidt. And they could've had the bullet hit Prof. X somewhere else, so that he wasn't paralyzed. As for the helmet and the building of Cerebro and Charles and Erik being together later, that's not hard either. The next movie could have shown Charles and Erik coming back together somehow (some common enemy.) After defeating that enemy, Charles convinces Erik to try starting the school and slowly convinving the world to accept mutants, and Erik agrees, helping to build a better Cerebro, while secretly thinking that if there aren't clear signs that the plan is working after a certain amount of time, he will go back to more violent methods. As for the helmet, just have the first one damaged, split in half at some point during the battle. Charles wouldn't think Erik could make a new one since the Soviets built the first, which is why he doesn't know how Erik is blocking him.

But, it sounds like DoFO has fixed most of these fairly well (and they didn't bother me that much anyway), so speculating on other ways to do it is ultimately pointless.

I am going to think that all of the continuity errors are just "ripples" from time travel and all that stuff

My brain doesn't work that way. I need better answers. Ha, you'd think with a pen name like that, you wouldn't be satisfied with just moving on ;)

Those are some good, simplified ideas, really. Doesn't the roster bother you? I guess it gets under my skin a bit more. I mean, why say these 3 are my 1st students and then mentor that group? Why involve Havok if there was no greater purpose. I would've been happier (still not happy though) had they used Corsair and made him a mutant, maybe. The complete disregard to Charles and Mystique's past was annoying. We know it was something they created later, but why? That's why I brought in Frost, at least. And I gave a reason for Neanderthal Sabretooth after they played him correctly (kind of) in Wolverine.

DoFP may have cleaned up what First Class continued to bury, but my CotA stories get there (eventually) ;)

That is correct. I hate retconnibg a movie. It's been said before, by others too, but a movie franchise shouldn't have retcons. This was my way to make the trilogy and Wolverine match up. What did you think?

I disagree. They are favorites, yes, and Mystique is my favorite Marvel female, but to use Havok, the youngest Summers brother, in 1962 is an insult to his fans, without explaining that, say, Cyke was put on ice and experimented on by Sinister, and the 40 year difference to his younger bro is explained. Hasn't happened yet so, yes, it's a bad idea.

And it makes the writers and actors look foolish to reinvent Mystique in 1st Class after not having the professor speak of this at all In the 1st 3 movies. Why would he not make a single comment, he doesn't hold back his history with Magneto and he was closer to Raven. So, yes, bad idea

Ugh. Listen, I can appreciate you being so invested... but come on.
Yes, Xavier tells Wolverine (and we have no reason to think he was lying or wrong) that he met Erik at age 17.... but that's become something so heavily focused on that people lose sight of what's important, what takes precedence, and when to not freak out.

I compare it to the "Budapest" throwaway line - and that's all it was - a throwaway line. No, no, no, and no, we don't need to see what happened in Budapest.

In 1999, X-Men was a gamble. Blade had given Fox the incentive to put it out there, since it had been in development for nearly a decade beforehand - they figured it was high-time to make a movie based on a comic book. They ended up going with what looked safe, consisting of Wolverine as the main character and audience surrogate, and a secondary character/surrogate in Rogue. While a lot of the characters went in a different direction than what kids had seen in the 90s Animated Series, the roster was predominantly the same. In short, before I start ranting too long - they had no idea they would be making SEVEN X-Men related movies.

Matthew Vaughn put James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender's acting ability over stringently following continuity - and I'm grateful.

I loved First Class. It's my favorite X-men movie. I loved the style of the film as I felt the early X-men entries were a bit bland. I loved that Charles and Xavier were the focus of the film and that we got to see and understand how both men got their world views. I loved the yellow and blue uniforms. I loved that the villain was memorable and ruthless.

Interesting ideas. I thought First Class was fabulous and i thought that film actually brought back the X-men. A new timeline and a reboot could have started from First Class alone with out having to bring back the original cast members from the older X-men films.

First, I appreciate the way your going about this. It's rare to see someone not agree with an article but handle it like that. Thank you. Second, sure, I nitpicked, but my main goal was to fix the roster, mainly Havok and Mystique. If still use the same to actors for X and Mags, who would age a decade and, by the third enstallement, there's no reason they can't be aged with make up to look 20 years older, or 15 given when the movie would happen. My way makes the entire first movie a buddy movie with Magda and Gabrielle the love interests. Beast could still be the same actor, but Banshee would have to change. Emma, the same as well as Schmidt. That way, we can wall see their acting shine as mine is a bit more exploration into their lives, the ups, downs, loves and losses.

Like I said, I get why they had that rosette for X1, but there is NO reason to change Mystique's roll or make Havok an original. If they wanted to give Raven a meatier roll, they should've added her to Wolveribe, whose memory loss causes him to forget her, as it did Sabretooth, somewhat. Ger cold heart is the reason she never says anything. Sorry, I ranted, in weak :)

And, btw guys, after the mascre, when they battle Apocalypse, my Horseman would be Gambit (as he was in the comics) Longshot and the Maximoff twins.

I don't think First Class is a good movie at all, I'm always surprised when I read people saying it's so great. The villains are just terrible and most of the characters overall just looked so cheesy.

But most of the cast did an awesome job and it did help lead to DOFP...the greatest thing ever.
