James Mangold Open To A Sequel To THE WOLVERINE; Interested In A SANDMAN Movie

Although The Wolverine is pretty much a standalone story leading into Bryan Singer's X-Men: DOFP, Mangold says he'd be interested in a follow up. He also reveals that he'd be very interested in, and has talked to Neil Gaiman about, a Sandman movie..

The Wolverine doesn't really leave any room for a direct follow up but there are a great many solo Logan stories to mine from should another movie materialize, and director James Mangold says that if he was afforded the same "freedoms" that the first film allowed him, he wouldn't hesitate to get back on board. "If it presented me with the opportunity as this one did then yes. What I mean is the location and the world in Japan really presented me with a unique set of freedoms," says Mangold to Yahoo Movies! "Certainly any project with Hugh is enticing, but if someone came to me, or I came up with a strategy that stays as inventive and as exciting, I wouldn’t hesitate to do another one." Another question put to the director is that if he had the chance to make a movie based on any DC Comics character, who would it be? Mangold name-checks both Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and The Flash -- revealing that he's actually spoken to the creator of the former about a big screen outing for Morpheus in the past. "The Sandman. Neil Gaiman’s Sandman is a great property. Actually I’ve talked to Neil about it before. I think it’s one of the great really interesting modernist tales. Also, on the complete other side of the universe I’ve always been a fan of The Flash. Although the outfit would have to definitely change, with those little wings on his ears."
