Kevin Bacon Signs On For X-Men: First Class

According to the site Bacon has officially signed on to join the growing cast of Mathew Vaughn's X-Men First Class prequel.

They say..

Bacon will play a villain, but his exact character is being kept under tight wraps. Some fanboy websites(that would be us!) have suggested that he will play Mr Sinister, Fox have declined comment.

Personally, I doubt he will be Sinister. That character just carries far too much exposition for Vaughan to think about ingratiating him into this prequel. But I can't for the life of me think who he could be either. Either way, I would say even the Fox haters have to admit that at the very least Vaughn is gathering together a very impressive cast for this. For Bacon's villain cred look no further than his menacing turns in Sleepers, The River Wild, and The Woodsman among others.

Bacon joins James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), and Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee).

Rumored but yet to be confirmed are Rosamund Pike as Moira McTaggert, Lucas Till as Havoc, and Aaron Johnson as Cyclops.

Shooting is set to begin next month, and the target release date of June 3, 2011. So expect a full confirmed cast list to hit very soon.

Good news to me. I love Bacon! Especially when it looks like a handful of it, down a Milf ;P

And he wouldn't be a bad choice for Mr. Sinister either.

Yeah, I could see Bacon as Sinister (not that I'm exactly psyched about the movie in the 1st place) but it might make sense since Magneto & Xavier will probably still be on the same side and need some other big-baddie to fight & Sinister fits the bill.

I think Stephen Lang would be a good choice. He looks the part, and as the inventor of the Sentinels, maybe we can finally get a mutant/robot throwdown!

I don't care who he plays, the film is lucky to have him. Kevin is one of the few actors who never phones it in, he's got the word driven all over him \,,/

@ Joey Misfit: He's got the right facial structure to look the part, he's got a good build (even if he's got a small stature, but they can fudge that in film - just look at Tom Cruise) and he's got the acting chops. Especially when he's playing someone evil - watch his performance in, "Sleepers" if you don't believe me.

I fear this movie will appear to be good and turn out horribly, I would love to see the origin of Pro. X, Mageto and Beast!

I don't see him as Sinister, I always think of Sinister as being physically imposing, Bacon just doesn't cut the mustard for me. Decent actor though. ( I was really hoping I could think of a pork product pun to incorporate into this posting, but I had a brain fart).

Joey Misfit- He's perfect for Sinister. He's the anti-christ! Haven't you watched Footloose? :P

Seriously though, he sells "creepy" & "evil" very well. River Wild was one of his best, I find. Loved him in Stir of Echoes but he was more "weird" in that than anything else.

It would be so cool to finally see Sinister in a movie! If he does play Sinister, let's hope they don't screw it up.

@deathmetalbrian - don't worry about Sinister being over the top. Knowing fox he may not be very much like his comic book counter part.

what would be interesting is if Bacon is playing Lucifer in this prequel.
think about it:
the last two time we have seen the good Professor on screen he had at least ONE scene where he could walk.
and seeing how Fox loves to expose false truths (see X-men Origins: Wolverine for future reference) this would be the perfect ooportunity for them to butcher another origin.
i have respect for Bacon but seeing as how great actors have been a part of this misguided franchise from day one, my hopes are not neccessarily high.

Joey Misfit- True, he doesn't "yell out" Sinister but i think he can pull it off. Let's just say that i'm glad we didn't get worse. Cause we very well could have. My ideal Sinister is Keith David. I don't care if he's black, that man yells Sinister out like none other!

And I like the idea of him playing Mr Sinister.

Kevin play good and bad rolls....and those characters sort of in-between.

He can play a Villian with Genius-level Intellect like Mr Sinister.

Love Kevin Bacon! He is more talented than most people give him credit for! While he isn't an obvious choice for Sinister he has what it takes to own the role! This is good news for a movie that can't meet it's potential while set in FOX's universe.

its one thing to say you want Sinister to be the villain. its a completely different thing to say Bacon should play him. that would be a terrible choice in my opinion.

The villain needs to be someone whose theme is based around the prejudice between humans and mutants. Sinister doesn't care about any of that, and never has.

The villain should be someone along the lines of Cameron Hodge, or the Friends of Humanity. Villains that hate mutants. this movie is about the formation of the X-Men, so it only makes sense for the villain to follow along the lines of prejudice.

Leave Sinister for a sequel.
