On The Pressure And Negativity From The Fans:

You read about it, but you have to, and don’t take it the wrong way, ignore it, because you’ve got to make a movie. I remember talking to Daniel Craig about this when he was doing Bond, and I was like ‘[frick] these [frick]wits, it doesn’t matter. They haven’t seen what you’re doing, you’re a good actor. Just let your work do the talking.’ And I always knew when people saw him in Bond they’d say, ‘he’s great’.

It’s very odd. You read, and you do want to hear what the concerns are, and see if you can address them, but at the same time, you don’t know who the hell’s writing it. It could be some eight year old kid. You actually meet these people and you suddenly go, ‘I’m listening to an eight year old about how to construct a film’, but every now and then there can be some valid points.

I was amazed at the negativity though, towards the X-Men world – not really, actually after watching Wolverine – but there was a whole – it was quite scary thinking, ‘am I going to turn fanboys round to actually enjoy it?’ and I thought the best way of doing it was, try to make a good movie that is respectful to the other X-Men movies, but not reverential to them.

On What Was Cut From The Movie To Make It Work:

There was a whole love story between Moria and X, and we cut all that out. Most of my movies, I always cut out one -I normally try to shoot too many things; it’s better to be able to take it down to to not be able to build it up.

On His Favourite Character From The Movie:

for me it’s obvious, but Magneto. I sat down with Michael and said, ‘I’ve always wanted to do a Bond movie. Imagine you’re Bond, but you don’t have to have gadgets. Bond would have to use his watch to make it magnetic, you can do shit that other people can’t; you’re sort of the ultimate assassin in a world that no one knows about, you with your powers’. I’ve always loved Magneto, and I don’t know why. It’s weird, because his power’s bloody odd if you think about it, it’s not that great a power, but there’s something about Magneto I’ve always loved.

X-Men: First Class is set to be released in the UK on June 1st and in the US on June 2nd.

is Darwin going to die in this one, btw? he doesn't seem to make it until the finale. i have a feeling he could be a somewhat annoying character, so i wouldn't mind...

the man knows what he's talking about. He has the vision and the talent, and if something is wrong, he will let the whole world knows. What else can you expect from this guy? I love it!

@Codeseven Are you actually gonna be doing any work towards boycotting this movie? or are you gonna mainly focus on trolling the comments section.

This guy is just so honest you can't help but like him. Also, X-Men First Class is going to be awesome, maybe the best CMB of the summer.

@seedslinger I doubt Darwin will die in this film. His power is to keep him at a constant state of evolution to stay alive. If he dies then his mutant power sucked. I think he'll just be let go in the middle.

I hope that there's a directors extended cut of this film when it's released on blu-ray. I read that X2 was much longer & had an R rating originally but was edited shorter & at a PG-13 rating. Even a scene with Gambit was shot but then thrown out. Sucks! Bryan Singer should release the director's cut of X2.

can he even be killed?

@Shocker
Not really. The movie is still hated by people on here; mainly because of what it is (not a reboot, being called First Class when not all the members of First Class X-Men are in the movie, and the same treatment Fox does by picking random mutants to try making a movie that sells to the public).

So, yeah, haters going to hate; no matter what others say.

I agree with what he said about Magneto, he's my favourite Marvel villain but his power (at least in the films anyway) isn't great, all he can move is metal but a true telekinetic like Jean Grey can move anything. I hear that Mags has other powers in the comics though (I don't read comics much since they're kinda hard to find and I always seem to buy the shitty ones when I find them) so it'd be cool if they showed that in a movie one day.

I also like how he kinda took a little jab at the Wolverine movie :P

I like how this film is shaping out to be, but yeah...magnetism as wielded by Magneto not that great a power? It's one of the fundamental forces of the universe and effectively makes Magneto easily one of the most powerful beings in the planet. He's done things such as create wormholes, reverse the polarity of the planet to usher in a new ice age, can drop asteroids on the planet, can manipulate virtually almost any source of energy, etc. I guess this means we won't see a true powerhouse in the form of Magneto which is a shame as the guy can take on entire teams of X-Men (good ones at that) and win.

@ Sjet- The only way I can see Darwin "dying" is if he turns into a mist or something odd like that in order to survive, but then he would be sure to be back in another movie.

It's probably the 2nd or 3rd "greatest" power in all of X-Men lore, I'm sure he meant it in terms of public apeal or popularity.

He makes a great point about the fan boy angst, who knows if its an 8 year old bitching about something they really know nothing about, or a 32 year old bitching about something they really know nothing about...

Not that great of a power? Wouldn't the world fall apart with out magnetic forces? And Magneto can control all that. That's a pretty insanely powerful power. Don't you think?

I always liked Matthew Vaughn, he's a fine director and generally I like most of his movies and I'm sure First Class will show more of his talents as a director.
P.S. I do like X-Men and X-2,

About Darwin. I would assume that having his powers would be very difficult to live with, constantly evolving. Would you even be sure what you would look like day to day, moment to moment. And if you did evolve drastically to survive some environmental change whats to say you would even revert to your normal form but rather just evolve further to suit the environment you currently occupy.
