The mutants are a massive part of the Marvel Universe. There are about 200 mutants good and bad and they all have some pretty insane powers. The Mutants are made from a mutated gene, the X-gene, which gives a unique power to each of them. Beast has brain power, Professor X has the ability hack into peoples brains, Magneto can control Metal, there are so many different powers that it’s almost impossible to show them all on the big screen.
Fox really worked at showing as many mutants as possible, they haven’t really gone into origins on many. They have a core 10 or so mutants that they use for just about all of the team movies, but besides those they have really worked at getting tons of different mutants in and out.
X-Men

The X-men are named after the X-gene not after professor X (as many people think). They were formed by professor X at his school, he claims they are named X-men for having EX-tra power. The X-men are usually lead into battle by Cyclops. Storm, and Ice Man and cable have firepower, and Wolverine, Beast and Colossus usually have they muscle. There are so many different X-men that it’s hard to talk about even the main characters. So I’ll just talk about a few.
Cyclops
Cyclops has lazar eyes. If he opens them a giant beam flies out. Over the years he has found ways to suppress it so that he can see without destroying everything. Usually through his glasses, which he can also use to make smaller beams. In the comics he essentially is the leader of the X-men, he sets the plans and goes for the attack. He was killed in X3 sadly enough before he could come to his full potential. In DOFP there is talk he will come back as well as jean gray.
Wolverine
Probably the most popular of all the Mutants, as well as the only one to have a solo film (2 at that), Logan has gone under experiments that have given him adamentium bones. Essentially he is indestructible. He also has bone claws that come out of his hands which are also metal. His last mutation is probably his biggest asset in the fact that he self-heals at a high rate. Giving him the ability to survive the Adamentium pumped into his body as well has vicious wounds. One thing about him is he is also an Avenger, lots of people call for him to join Stark and Cap in the fight against more than just other mutants and I don’t blame them. Wolverine is far from the most powerful mutant ever but he is scrappy and a pain to fight against.
Storm
One of the most powerful mutants out there, Storm has control over the weather. Lightning, fog, massive drops or raises in temperature make her one of the strongest around. She also has spent limited time in the Avengers but not as much as the likes of Wolverine or Beast. She at times has lead the X-men and to many she is considered the better choice between her and Cyclops.
Other notable characters: Rogue, Colossus, Jean Gray, Kitty Pride, Ice Man, Beast.
Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants
Magneto is the main villain of the X-men and was rated on IGN as the number 1 comic book villain of all time. His team of mutants is always out to do… well you know bad guy stuff. Him and Professor X are forever frienamies as they have one of the most complex bonds in comics. Magneto has built up his brotherhood to destroy humans and X-men alike. In the movies its usually depicted as him only trying to kill off the humans because “Mutants are the future”. In the upcoming film Days of Future past it looks again for the third time that he will be on the X-men’s side in a way. The brotherhood consists of tons of mutants that have been in and out of teams for years. In the movies the most used villain is mystique the shape shifter. The brotherhood have been the villains for most of the films, with little exploration to other X-men villains such as Apocalypse.
Other notable characters: Pyro, Sabretooth, Toad, Blob.
X-force
With fox more than likely making an X-force film in the future I decided to add them to the teams of mutants in this editorial. One of the spinoff teams of the X-men, X-force is a darker take on the heroes. Cyclops forms the team to essentially finish off threats to the X-men, sort of a Black ops version of the X-men with a more modern feel. Not sure what to really expect from this new film besides a darker feel with probably some new mutants. Few of my favorite picks for this movie.
Cable
The longest wait has to end for Cable. One of the most popular X-men that has yet to make a movie. Cable has telepathic and telekinetic abilities, as well as super human strength, super eyesight and has been able to travel through time at points with the help of others. He is always shown with a gun in his hand and is very good with them. He has been and is one of the most used X-men and X-force characters out there and there is no reason not to add him to the roster.
Deadpool
With Days of Future past hopefully being a reboot of the X-men, we hope to see X-men origins: Wolverine whipped away forever. Which could mean we have a shot at deadpool. The REAL one. Deadpool has healing, superhuman abilities, immune to telepathy, and is an insane weapons user. He can use guns and swords (his more preferable being the sword) and as the name says, he usually finishes his enemies off. Deadpool has also been talked about for his own origins movie and every fan has anticipate this for years, too bad it might never happen. I would love to see him make his true appearance in the upcoming X-force film.
Other notable characters: X-23, Domino, Wolfsbane, Warpath, elixir.
To wright up something on all the mutants would just take forever but I hope I’ve shown some of the best. The last question about them is will we ever see them with the Avengers. To do this there are 3 options. Avengers reboot in X-men, X-men reboot in Avengers, Co-exist. The first option has pretty much never been seriously considered, the Avengers have become the dominant of the two on and off film and Disney has way more money. The second would be to buy the X-men from Fox and just reboot the franchise. Wouldn’t be hard they just have to have a movie about the start of the X-men in the universe. My personal favorite opinion would be the last, since Fox has done a decent enough job in my opinion it would make better sense to me that they just start to co-exist. Especially with quicksilver being in Days of Future Past and the Avengers: Age of Ultron, it would be a quick way to tie the two franchises together until we finally see Wolverine join up with the avengers. Also if Disney ever did get film rights back from Fox they could continue the X-men franchise and not make another 4 films to catch back up. Either way the X-men universe is large enough to make films for a long time and succeed without the Avengers joining up. What do you guys think should come after Days of Future Past? Should we get another X-men film, X-force, a based in the Avengers timeline film, or a solo film?
Next getting into some Characters who aren’t quite as movie made, (Finally) Mythology.
