The Misfits' Glen Danzig Was Almost Fox's WOLVERINE, Says He Would've Played Wolvie Less Gay

The former frontman for The Misfits was once upon a time up for Wolverine in Fox's X-Men film. Apparently, Danzig is not a fan of Jackman's interpretation of the character.

Back in 2000, wow, can't believe that's 12 years ago, we saw our first X-Men film on the big screen. As part of the second renaissance of superhero movies, Bryan Singer's film paved the way for the annual summer comic book movie festival we now enjoy. However, production on the film was somewhat troubled, least of which, was the casting search to play James Logan aka Wolverine. Up for the role at the time was legendary Misfits frontman, Glen Danzig. Recently speaking to LA Weekly Danzig "reflects" on that opportunity---

Early in the film's pre-production, you were in talks to play Wolverine in X-Men. How would you have played Logan/Wolverine differently than Hugh Jackman?

Danzig: It wouldn't have been as gay. Actually, he wasn't the first choice. They hired Dougray Scott. He had a falling out with the director, and then they hired Hugh Jackman. I'm glad I didn't do it. It was terrible.

Obviously, not a man to mince words. And while Jackman does have a stage and singing background and isn't necessarily the mirror image of his comic book counterpart, I can honestly say I've found his performances as Marvel's most ferocious mutant to be enjoyable. What about you? Sound off below in the usual spot.

danzig understands wolverine better than jackman. plus he has the right "misfit" attitude to play a loner with mental problems like wolverine. Dn't know if the man can act though...

I was hoping he would've gotten the role.

Neve really praised Jackman as Wolverine. Danzig would've been better IMO

Danzig once was shooting a video for "Killer Wolf" in the mountains and this random wolf literally came on set, went straight to Danzig, and Danzig pet him like a puppy. AWESOME

Firstly, this guy has next to no acting experience. Secondly, He really doesn't look all that much like Wolverine, and he pretty old now. Thirdly, what a prick for saying that.

Wolverine has been my hero since I was five. Marvel Comics took a dive after Age of Apocalypse so I gave up on comic books when I went to middle school. Then, Danzig became my hero. Then, my life crossed over and I realized...they're the same person. True Danzig/Wolverine fans understand this.

Because he was so solid in…uh…the Prophecy 2? Danzig would've been Christmas Ham to the power of Nic Cage as Wolverine.

So let's see - talentless, seroid-abusing hairboy poser thinks he would have been "less gay" than Hugh Jackman. Riiiiiight. Glenn Danzig looks like the poster boy for West Hollywood metal fetish bars. Anybody who thinks Danzig has ANY kind of understanding of Wolverine is seriously deluded.

Viltrumite, you don't say "firstly". SECONDLY, Danzig had a cameo in Prophecy 2 with Christopher Walken. Oh, and are you retarded? He looks EXACTLY like Wolverine. He came up with the devil lock haircut. That's basically the link to Wolverine's devil haircut. In Wolverine #66(1992), Wolverine goes to hell and out of his mind. He actually sees his heroes in a mirage of sorts and one of them is none other than Elvis. Please, please. I loved Hugh Jackman in The Fountain, but overall he's a Broadway actor. Which means he actually HAS talent. It's not hard for Jackman to play Wolvie. It's primarily a one dimensional character that America loves to see onscreen.

How was Hugh Jackman's Wolverine gay? A little butthurt Glenn?

Kevberg, I'm glad you brought that up, my friend! You see, in the Origins movie(which I admit, sucked) when they were on the bridge, this HUGE guy calls Wolvie a "runt". That's the same thing that happened with Glenn. Glenn deserved that punch. Wolverine also deserves a punch sometimes, he's not a nice guy. What should've happened in the movie is Wolvie should've gotten out the car, lost his temper, and gotten knocked out. He would've realized he should control himself.

I met him once, hes fn short, and was still dressing in his eighties black outfit, loved him growing up listening to the misfits, but is such an asshole. But he's still a huge icon in punk and metal music, and the comic book world, I'd go see him if they did a misfits reunion though haha

btw, i don't think it's cool for people to act like bigots and say "oh, bro, he's butthurt, he looks gay cuz of his hair." Hugh Jackman is ACTUALLY gay, you idiots. I like Hugh btw. I'm not a homophobe, I wear tight pants and listen to emo bands, so i get picked on a bunch.

I'm so glad this gentleman gave us his professional and in depth opinion on Hugh Jackmans performance as " I wouldn't have been so gay ". Who the hell is this guy anyway? What acting experience does he have? Screw this guy... Hugh's performance is fine.
