Four Actors Join The Cast Of THE WOLVERINE

SHH have received word that four Japanese actors have joined the cast of James Mangold's upcoming follow up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine in supporting roles - Shingen and Mariko among them..

It seems casting has begun on Fox's next Wolverine movie, and according to SHH the following actors will be joining Hugh Jackman in some key roles..

Hiroyuki Sanada ("Lost," Rush Hour 3, The Last Samurai) is set to play Shingen; veteran actor Hal Yamanouchi (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Push, Sinbad of the Seven Seas) plays Yashida; and new discoveries Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima will star as Mariko and Yukio, respectively.

You will notice that the character played by Hal Yamanouchi is listed as "Yashida", but fans of Chris Claremont & Frank Miller's "Japan Saga", on which this movie is based, will know that is the family name of several characters that cross paths with Wolverine throughout the course of the story, Shingen and his daughter Mariko (Logan's love interest) included. So this is either a mistake or they have created a new character - possibly Shingen's father - for the movie, we will update if we can figure it out. Anyway, there is another (illegitimate) member of the Yashida clan - Keniuchio Harada, a mutant who will become The Silver Samurai. No word on his casting yet, but keep an eye out.

The Wolverine is set to hit theaters July 26, 2013 James Mangold directing. Lauren Shuler Donner will produce with Hugh Jackman, John Palermo and Hutch Parker.

Mariko and Yukio <---- Those names sound familiar. Do they turn into someone important?

I'm not either, I hope they give Wolvie his trademark suit this time though. I don't care which color either.

Ive said it before we've got to atleast see Wolverine in his comic book suit once....they can make it as some sort of samurai inspired body armor suit given to him by Mariko or her family to wear in his final fight with Silver Samurai

I honestly think Christian Kane would fit the role of Wolverine very well, if and when Jackamn doesnt want to do the role anymore, i think kane would make a great replacement

@Superman2013
Really? Are we talking Asian films in general, or Western films set in Asia?

BTW, Yukio is the character who gives Storm her mohawk makeover. She's not a mutant, but I'm worried Fox will make her one...

As long as Jackman does a better job than he did in that Geisha movie.

Here's hoping it's good. It's definitive Wolverine story material, here's hoping they don't [frick]ushima it up. If they do, there is absolutely no hope of them ever getting it right.

Not gonna happen. Hugh Jackman is a producer.

can they please give him a proper comic costume? ??Avengers did it! the Spider-man movies have been doing it for years...why does Fox / Jackman find it impossible to get him into a more comics-equivalent outfit?? lame.
oh but I hated Wolverine: Origins yet I look forward to this. go figure.

My guess is that SHH made a mistake because Hal Yamanouchi bears an uncanny resemblance to Lord Shingen (Shingen Yashida) and Hiroyuki Sanada is a great choice for Silver Samurai.

This movie will tank, much like its predecessor.

@Tainted87, WHAAAAAAAT? Hugh Jackman is an awesome Wolverine. Granted, he's about a foot taller than the comic character, but he nails the role in his acting. I can't picture anyone else right now playing Wolvie.

On a side note, I want to see him fight Omega Red and decapitate Sabretooth.

Tainted87, great pic, dood. Marcuskiner, the film CRITICALLY tanked. That guy who bootlegged the film first is still in jail I believe. Hiroyuki Sanada is great, man. He was in Sunshine, so he gets my approval. I think this movie will end up solid. But since Wolvie's my favorite, he's due so much more. I guess I will just stick with the 90s animated series and the video game cinematics from X-Men Origins.

@MadJakHatesSpinoffs
You have me confused with someone else. I never said Hugh Jackman shouldn't be Wolverine. I'm saying that because he's a producer and has a great relationship with Fox, he is not going to be recast until he wants to leave.
