Ahead of the Dark Phoenix trailer debut on Wednesday, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment officially released the original X-Men trilogy on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in an awesome collector's set.

The three-film, six-disc collection features a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, a standard Blu-ray disc and UHD digital copies of X-Men, X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. There's also a number of very cool special features for the most diehard fans including Audio Commentary, Behind-the-Scenes Footage, tons of Deleted/Extended Scenes, The Mutant Watch, Animatics, and Character and Production Design Stills.

Having been given an opportunity to preview the new collection ahead of its release, I can assure you that each of the three classic films
look and sound phenomenal on the premium format. It was also pretty fun and quite the nostalgia trip revisiting these films that helped shape the modern comic book movie era, especially X2, which has always remained a personal favorite.

The whole set is currently available on Amazon for $29.96 (which is an absolute steal) and at Best Buy for $39.99.

@ArthurFleck - Just don't watch them all back to back. You're mind will explode trying to piece together the continuity.

Those black leather suits aged badly. The actual comic costumes would look way better and more classic on screen. If you told that to Singer back in the day though his head would have exploded. I guess everyone needed ol' Feige to show them how it's properly done.

While this site is pretty shitty towards the X-series, I’m looking forward to this. X2 is still such an awesome movie. That Nightcrawler opening scene in the White House was so badass

@DaHyro - I cant see anyone debating the greatness of X2.

@DaHyro - Pretty sure most if not everyone loves X2, First Class, and DOFP but the rest hard pass.

And I'm not including Logan or either DP film in there as neither has the X-MEN brand on it.

Fox be thinking, "Raking in that glorious Marvel money while we can until we become Disney's Fox subsidiary."

What a shitty cover. That’s supposed to represent the trilogy? Where’s Rogue? Or Iceman? Or freakin’ Magneto?

I already have these on Blu-Ray so what is the difference between regular Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD.

@tb86

VHS: "OMFG it's Wolverine on screen! THAT'S HIM!"

DVD: "Dude this is an X-Men movie! THE X-MEN! My childhood brought to life. Kill me now!"

BD: "Wow this takes me back. We've moved a lot forward but what a pioneering comic film for its time."

4K: "WTF is this shit? Those S&M cosplayers look nothing like the comics! TIMELINE CONTINUITY?! That Wolverine is a giant! Singer touches children. Praise Lord Fiege."

@tb86 - Blu rays are 1080P (1920×1080), 4K's (3840 × 2160) are a higher resolution in terms of pixel count.
Because the first two X-Men's were shot in 35mm and mastered in that they've been given new 4K scans. (35mm can theoretically hold up to 6K of detail).

The later X-Mens were made in the age of digital mastering. Most blockbuster are mastered in 2K so those will be 4K upscales most likely. So all the 4K's are more representative of what the theatrical release is like.

4K also has the added benefit of HDR which is high dynamic range which gives you a wider colour and black/white level gamet then non hdr can give you. This means no detail is lost or blown out and you get a more nuanced colouring.

Like blu ray though, 4K UHD's can be handled really shitty but the distributor and some look bad so always check out a review to see if the transfer has been handled properly. A really good 4K and proper transfer honestly makes films like 'A Few Good Men' look like they were shot yesterday because they were shot on film which is still being used today.
