X-MEN '97 Spoilers: "Remember It" Features A Blink-And-You'll-Miss-It Cameo From MCU's [SPOILER]

Today's episode of X-Men '97 was nothing short of devastating. In "Remember It," a giant Sentinel and its army lays waste to Genosha, killing countless mutants and destroying what was once a paradise.

There are a couple of high-profile victims (you can read our full recap here), but right before the massacre begins, a surprise character makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo appearance.

As fireworks go off above Genosha, Uatu the Watcher can be spotted watching the festivities from afar. He's taken fans on multiple trips through the Multiverse in What If...? season 1 and season 2, and previously showed up for an episode of I Am Groot

Clearly, Genosha's destruction was an important enough moment in this reality for Uatu to decide he needed to witness the horror to come. Jeffrey Wright doesn't reprise the role because this is a non-speaking part, but it's a significant moment which ties X-Men '97 to the wider MCU.

Recently, there have been rumours that Storm will make an appearance in What If...? season 3 and we now can't help but wonder whether it will be this revival's version of the character. After all, The Watcher has a history of assembling Variants from across the Multiverse to fight the battles he's vowed not to interfere in.

"There are infinite possibilities with this series within the MCU. I'm open to all of it," Wright previously said of his role as The Watcher. "One thing I think we're realizing with Marvel and Kevin Feige's leadership is that these are broad, broad canvasses they're painting on. I don't even try to anticipate, so I'm just open to all of it - as The Watcher would be."

Take a closer look at The Watcher's X-Men '97 cameo below.

In our review of the show's first three episodes last month, we wrapped up by saying, "A triumphant return for X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men '97 is an eXtraordinary epic which, while a little overreliant on nostalgia, should satisfy fans of the original show and serve as an eXcellent entry poin

X-Men '97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

The first five episodes of X-Men '97 are now streaming on Disney+ with new instalments following weekly.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed it. Always down to hear more from Jeffrey Wright.

You’re an absolute clown. MCU in the headline alone is a spoiler. Thanks again Wilding.

@BreakTheCode - It's not even an MCU connection to begin with. Anyone who's seen the original X-Men animated series knows Watcher pops up there.
Josh is just sensationalising shit again.

@BritishMonkey - not only that but also fantastic four and silver surfer, two other cartoons in this universe.

Not to mention his comments about this storm appearing in what if, the laziest idea for what if I ever heard of.

@Origame - Exactly. Like I say, sensationalising.

@Vigor - I noticed it was something, I didn’t know it was The Watcher though.

This really is the multiverse saga. It permeates in everything they do. From movies to shows and now animated shows. Lining up purchase of fox assets with this saga is a "executive boardroom genius level" move. I get that people aren't as invested as with infinity saga but I hope disney has the guts to see this play through. I feel like we are barely halfway through and are still just getting hints as to what's going to occur.

Like the long form stories from jRpgs. I like a slow burn. Looks like deadpool3 will blow the lid off the top though!

@Vigor - I don't know, at this point it might be better to just get Avengers 5 & 6 out as quickly as possible and wrap up the Multiverse Saga. After all, it is what tarnished a once stellar reputation.

If his job is to watch then why is he looking in the wrong direction?

@HashTagSwagg - If you look closely, he's looking almost over his shoulder, brow and eyes exposed over his outfit, and nose. It looks initially like a profile view, but it's not.

I hope they soon clarify what Fox/Sony stuff is multiverse canon. It looks like right now it’s 5 spider films, 3 venom films, 13 mutant films, 2 daredevil films, and the X-men animated series. Am I missing any?

Yeah, not the MCU's Watcher. Uatu appears in the X-Men anyway during the Phoenix Saga, so it's that original Uatu.

@BritishMonkey - There is only one Uatu in the multiverse.

@Drace24 - Yeah that’s not really the case though, there have been plenty of different versions of Uatu in different timelines/realities

Drace24 - 4/10/2024, 8:26 PM
@CerealKiller1 - All the same one. He is a 5-dimensional being.

@Drace24 - A basic amount of research will show you otherwise. The one in the comics has been dead for years. Many stories have different version of Uatu

The MCU made him a multiverse figure. That is not what the original character was. He just observed his own reality

Drace24 - 4/10/2024, 8:49 PM
@CerealKiller1 - Welp, there you go. Multiversal figure.
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 4/10/2024, 8:52 PM
@Drace24 - In one show. Sure. Who views the multiverse that is specifically branched off from the MCU. Nothing else. So….not the same one. But something tells me you’re gonna keep going so I’ll say agree to disagree
