Here's Michael's answers to our X-Pert questions:

How did you find your "dark side" in playing this role?

There's a dark side in everybody. You just have to dig deep and get involved in it. Any time you get a role, you realize three main characteristics of that person, and then you just have to inflate them in yourself if they're not there or just use them if they are already there.

Does the fact that the character you play has a very established future already as a super villain help or hinder the way you portrayed him?

Neither, really. I got all my source material from the comic books.

What was the hardest part of playing Magneto?

Trying to bend metal when obviously I can't do that.

After playing Magneto, do you feel some type of connection with the character?

I absolutely feel a connection. I think the interesting thing about Magneto is he does magnify the human race's failure in trying to co-exist and then magnifies the destructiveness. Even though his methods are extreme, his arguments actually are true and make sense.

What did you feel when you put on the helmet for the first time?

You feel a little bit silly, but then you just have to sort of throw yourself in there and really have fun and own it.

Does your character wear the helmet a lot in this movie?

No. This is the transitional period. He is still learning how to use his power just like everyone else. By the end of the movie he is definitely using it though.

What do you believe was the most entertaining part in playing Magneto?

What's very encouraging as an actor trying to approach this part, is that there's so much material there in the comic books that you can very easily form a character and know exactly where he's coming from. In that respect you can just get on with it and enjoy being the person.

Are we going to see Erik/Magneto as a possible team leader like Cyclops or more of an outcast trying to fit in?

I think all of the mutants are outcasts trying to fit in, but within his own peers, I think he's a definite leader. There's no doubt about that. I think any megalomaniac that manages to get an army behind him the way he does has to be a good leader. I think he's charismatic, I think he's intelligent and I think he's very forceful. That's a pretty influential combination.

Will Erik have a love interest?

Not really. I think there are signs of seeds to be sown later, but I think when we meet Erik in this film, his life is more about revenge than anything else. In this film, he's a lone wolf and he's on a very specific mission and he's Machiavellian in his approach to whatever ends justify the means.

"Even though his methods are extreme, his arguments actually are true and make sense." and thats why magneto is one of the best villains ever created by stan the man and king kirby.

Fassbender & McAvoy are going to shine in this movie!!!

Fassbender is going to be the best thing about this film. Then McAvoy.

Also, whoever said Jennifer Lawrence looks chunky and not sexy/hot, get off your high horse. I'm pretty sure anyone on this site would want to bang her.

"I'm pretty sure anyone on this site would want to bang her."

I'm not sure that is helping your case. :-P

I have to agree that the questions are pretty weak. I think Fassbender will be good, but I am not sold on McAvoy. He always has an annoying look on his face, plus I have challenges with the fact he has hair and is walking around. That doesn't help. Must suspend belief in the the actual story so I can watch this on Netflix.

@reasonnnn I agree about jennifer!!!

Still not convince about this movie. Maybe if it was the 1st class in the comics I'd be a little more into it. But I think I'd rather watch the spiddy reboot than this one.

Fassbender, McAvoy and Lawrence. Best 3-way ever!

P.S. I'm with @Reasonnnn too (:

haters say she got a fat-face? she's still one of the hottest women on the planet. and an Oscar-nominated actress. So sit the f*ck down.

haha... @cherrybomb and reasonnnn

so which one of you is jennifer lawrence in disguise?
she's got an ok face but definately not oneof the hottest on the planet...
and Winters Bone was overrated as shit... they'll give anybody an Academy Award nomination these days just so studios can drum up support in a failed project...

Magneto is the greatest villian ever!

the scene from x-3 is perfect demonstration of this!
when he takes control of the mutant meeting and challenges them to stop being weak and innefective. While repeating his own experiences of forced genocide and the way the Government has already begun to prepare for war, "Its then that you realize that while your arguing and planning, the genocide has already begun.. mark my words brothers, they WILL turn their cure into a weapon, and they WILL force it upon us." and he was right.
all culminating in the line that gives Magneto the ultimate worldly street cred you can have on the subject.. "where's my mark? I assure you my dear, only one needle has ever marked my skin, and none other ever shall repeat that act!" (roughly quoted, but you get the point)

if you really wanna mess up your view of the character, watch Apt Pupil in between viewings of the x-men trilogy

If Academy Awards had any merit, V for Vendetta woulda made out like Forrest Gump...

especially after you read the source material, they made a Blockbuster masterpiece out of a very convoluted and ultimately anti-climactic series....

not that it wasnt brilliant in its own right... but in comparison to the movie it lacks a lot of the heart and emotion that help the story find its mark

WTF?! Why only Fassbender's answers were posted here? Why this discrimination against McAvoy? [frick]ers.

James' answers are much better anyway.
