BOX OFFICE: THE WOLVERINE Set To Nab The #2 Spot As 2 GUNS Opens At #1

It was thought that The Smurfs 2 would be battling it out with 2 Guns this weekend for the #1 spot, but it now looks likely that the BOOM! Studios adaptation will take the top spot with The Wolverine not too far behind in second place. Read on for details!

2 Guns has opened with an estimated $10 - 11.5 million today and now looks set to overperform this weekend in North America with a predicted three day total of $32 million. That's a pretty damn good result for the R-Rated action/comedy which only cost $61 million to produce. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the star power of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg has been more than enough to help make the movie a success. Universal were expecting the BOOM! Studios adaptation to open in the mid twenties at most. However, the biggest surprise this weekend is James Mangold's The Wolverine. It suffered a 67% drop this week, but after taking between $6 - 8 million today, it now looks set to nab second place with an expected $21 million total. That leaves The Smurfs 2 in third place with an extremely disappointing $16 million weekend. With a five day cume of $25.5 million, that means it will have taken a good $10 million less than Sony expected. However, overseas is another matter altogether and it looks set to decimate any and all competition.

If the guys in 2 GUNS killed a bunch of ninjas it would be awesome but sadly they did not...in THE WOLVERINE...IT DIDN'T HAPPEN EITHER! (pathetic.)

Damn.

Aw, well. It's still a damn good movie, and I'll be more than happy to get it on Blu-Ray when it comes out.

Now I did love Iron Man. But a couple of things:

first off Wolverine & Hulk got me into Marvel so I favor them a bit.

second the fight scenes in the Wolverine were better than Iron Man. You really can't doubt that. Mostly because Iron Man just fought 2 terrorists groups in the middle east and a bigger guy in a Iron Man suit but still the fights in the Wolverine were better.

third, I felt that The Wolverine is a little newer. Iron Man for me felt like Batman Begins which I don't mind but for The Wolverine, we've never seen a CBM in this place like how we do in The Wolverine. Most CBMs take place in America and we get more of a global sense in The Wolverine.

I am intrigued that it's out of the US, and isn't another "save the world type". I'm definitely going to see it. If anyone at Marvel could impress me more than Iron Man (well besides Spidey) it would be Wolverine. Looking forward to watching it!

Wolverine rocked. It was fantastic. [frick] 2 Guns.

Best CBM of the summer. Iron Turd 3 is worse than World War Z

Best CBM of 2013 so far. Let's hope Thor: The Dark World is so epic it surpasses it.

How can you say no to a Denzel movie?

@LEVITIKUZ
The Wolverine is good, far from great..no where near as good as Iron Man 1.
Flaws in the new Wolverine film are more glaring than the few IM flaws.

You probably would like original Iron Man more if "Eminem" was Tony Stark instead of RDJ.
Because he's more talented than RDJ and Matt Damon combined.

Definitely going to watch this again. And I'll also pick up the bloodier, unrated cut. Seeing the whole ninja fight in bloody blu ray should be epic.

So because on that Elyslium article where you were the dumbass who said Em wanted to do it but the producers shot it down and where I corrected you saying Neil wanted Em and went to him and Em said he didn't want to do it unless some was shot it Detroit which is why Em turned it down which it wasn't, I'm now an Eminem fan?

Well I say one anyway but I would have liked to see what he would have done with it. I give all castings a shot unlike most people who bitched and moaned at Ledger.

Also I will say about Em, he does have an Oscar.

;P

But seriously stop acting like a dumbass.

Ha..man you wrote all that to repeat yourself?
Dude, relax I was just messing with ya.
You need thicker skin & the ability to recognize sarcasm.

Damon is light years superior in the acting craft to "Em".
Damon has an Oscar too..for his filmmaking ability NOT for music.
You just wish "Em" was dressed as Yukio & giving you a massage.

[frick] that. Hugh will stay until he doesn't want to. The man has more passion than any other CBM actor tenfold. For us to deny him that is heresy.

According to boxofficemojo, Wolverine has made over 165 mil. so it clearly passed up its budget. Let the haters hate.
Also, you're wrong. Its not the best of '13. Its the best ever!

Or Nick Fury in the reboot! As far as villains go, I'd say Luthor and Kingpin are good choices, or maybe even Hugo Strange.

Iron Man 3 was good, i think the whole Avengers hype got ppl blinded how bad IM3 is. I thin kafter the dvd is out and ppl start watching it more, they'll realize. It may had some flaws but I enjoyed Man of Steel more than IM3(atleast superman had more than one fight scene than IRON man did). And Wolverine was actually good, not the best Wolverine out but it was good and ppl the Unrated Wolverine is going to have more blood in it and an extended ninja fight scene that was cut out the theatrical version.
