International Trailer For 47 RONIN

A brief new Japanese trailer for the upcoming fantasy/action flick starring Keanu Reeves, Cary-Hiroyuki and Rinko Kikuchi has hit; giving us a look at some exciting new footage. This one looks like it could be awesome..or really, really terrible!

The troupe of banished samurai long to restore their honor and find vengeance against the treacherous Lord Kira (played by Asano, who is in theaters now as Hogun in Thor) who was responsible for the death of their master. Kai is the uneasy compatriot in their company and his standing will be questioned even more as he falls in love with Mika (Shibasaki), daughter of the fallen master. The film presents a quest where the ronin (the term for samurai with no master) face trials that test their mettle and their loyalty to one another.


Directed by Carl Erik Rinsch, and starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi, 47 Ronin is set to be released on December 25th, 2013.

Looks similar to the Last Samurai, but I'm not feeling it. Just going to pick up The Grandmaster on DVD.

Looks great. I don't know about Keanu though. Seems like an unnecessary casting choice just so white audiences will "get it."

I think this is going to be good. I mean yes it's another white guy playing a ronin, but hey I loved Last Samurai so I'm willing to give it a shot.

Keanu Reeves seems to do his best work in weird and unusual so I'll be seeing this especially after watching 'Man of Tai Chi' I thought he was great in that.

I just hate that they made about 90% original stuff for this movie but couldn't just finish it and make an original movie.

It looks good, it's incorporating Japanese mythology into a story that's already been told the same way over and over again, this will be a different take on the legend and Japan has some very cool mythology so it should be pretty spectacular.

Keanu is half Japanese in this, they originally wanted to have another 5 white actors in there but Keanu and some others pushed for a more Asian cast, which they got, it's a bigger risk this way so I hope it pays off for them.

But ultimately, if they want an all Japanese cast, Japan will have to pony up and pay for the movie to be made themselves.

Hell, I'll give this film a shot. Love Keanu as an actor. Much kudos to him.

I myself am a half-breed: half Hawaiian and half EPICness. ;)

LoL, seriously, though, I'll take my old man to see this. Doesn't look that bad, to be quite honest. And again, it's got Keanu, so that's all that needs to be said.

Of course, I'm not expecting an Oscar-worthy performance from this film, but for what it is, a fantasy/action film with Japanese culture fit in it, it looks to be appealing. 'Specially the visuals for this film.

47 Ronin is based on actual events during the early 18th century but I agree with most here whats up with the beasts and monsters?!

I will definitely check it out. It's no great piece of cinema, but it looks like a good cheesy action movie. Usually not much out that time of year for me to watch anyway.

So? He's still identified as white by movie going audiences. Same with Johnny Depp, who played Tonto in The Lone Ranger.

There's no valid reason why they couldn't have gotten a Japanese actor, just as there's no reason to now make the character half-white, apart from appealing to a demographic.

They didn't get a Japanese actor because this is Keanu Reeves passion project. It's his movie. Which is why the movie is about a Half breed which is what Keanu Reeves is.

@ ParisSun

If Lenny Kravitz or Dwane "The Rock" Johnson wanted to play a half black or half white character in a movie that doen't match up 100% with there enthic parts then that's fine by me. I mean white actors play different white characters even those there european enthiicties dont' match up 100% with said charcters race. It's like saying Scarlett Johansson can't play Black Widow becasue she's half Dannish and Black Widow is 100% Russian.
