Matt Damon Is Back As 'Jason Bourne' In First Official Photo & Details From BOURNE 5

The plot of Universal's upcoming Bourne sequel, which features the return of director Paul Greengrass & franchise star Matt Damon, has been shrouded in mystery. No one knows what brings Jason Bourne back into the public eye. However, thanks to Entertainment Weekly's "First Look" feature, we have our first official photo of Damon back in action as Bourne, which you can view above.

Additionally, without revealing too much, Damon shared that when we are reintroduced to Jason Bourne a.k.a. ~~Captain David Webb~~, it'll be twelve years after The Bourne Ultimatum, which was set in 2004, and that "We find him in a dark and tortured place." He also touches on the setting, which is a world not dissimilar to our own: "There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties." This new complex world will serve as a backdrop for the highly anticipated sequel's story, which sees Bourne resume his quest to find answers about his tumultuous past.

Global superstar Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role as Jason Bourne in the fifth installment of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise. Acclaimed director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, Captain Phillips) also returns for this much-anticipated chapter, and Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon and Gregory Goodman also produce. The action-thriller is written by Greengrass, Damon and Christopher Rouse. Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones join Damon for the action-thriller.

I'm not complaining or anything, but did anyone really want to see another Bourne film? Just seems pointless to make another one.

It's really awesome he's coming back, with Greengrass as well. I never thought it would happen! The original trilogy was awesome. The fourth one was okay, it wasn't terrible but it was disappointing compared to the previous three. But I find the Bourne movies enjoyable and refreshing amongst all the other action spy thrillers out there. So I can't wait.
