David Goyer To Direct "19th Century DARK KNIGHT" Take On THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Frequent Christopher Nolan collaborator Goyer is set to helm what is being touted as a "graphic novel" type approach to Alexandre Dumas' classic tale of revenge, The Count Of Monte Cristo. Read on for details..

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that David Goyer has signed on to direct an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic revenge tale for Constantin Films. Apparently Goyer's work on Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and the upcoming Man Of Steel helped him land the gig, as word is that Constantin’s approach for Monte Cristo will be something like Warner Bros. take on not only their Sherlock Holmes movies but its DC characters also, with a source telling THR that a buzz phrase for Monte Cristo is “19th century Dark Knight.” “During my career I’ve enjoyed re-invigorating and contextualizing classic characters that are relatable to contemporary audiences,” Goyer tells the site. “Michael has written an excellent script and I’m going to enjoy bringing our take of the rich and textured world of Monte Cristo to the big screen.” There have been numerous adaptations of the novel, most recently Kevin Reynolds directed a pretty good one back in 2002 starring Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce.

The 70's version was really good too. It's just a great book that has been re-told & inspired other classics (Great Gatsby, Oldboy). Everyone loves revenge, the theme is timeless.

Yeah well, Blade 3 is all I have to say to that. He can write (as long as someone else is on on the process) but directing... maybe he learned from B3. One could only hope. But I won't be one of the people that spends his hard earned money to find out.

Count of Monte Cristo is one of the best revenge stories ever. The recent movie version had a much better ending than the book, but the book was still awesome. So looking forward to watching this.

Zig Zag is actually a really good movie. And I remember liking The Invisible quite a bit as well.

But I also didn't hate Blade Trinity. So I don't give a shit if he directs or not, I don't think it will make or break the movie. There is worse directors by a long shot.

I loved Blade: Trinity. Really didn't at all see what people hated so much about it. Maybe I need to see it again, but I thought it was a very good movie.

There was an awesome TV version in the 70s starring Richard Chamberlain(King Solomon's Mines). Loved it when I was young and I always thought it had that Green Arrow/Batman feel to it.

Blade III was bad mostly because Snipes was a douche on set, got hi in is trailer and only got out for close-up. They lack a lot of footage in the editing room so they add to have Reynolds make joke and than show Blade (not)reacting.
