INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY Composer Says Upcoming Reshoots Will Change The Movie's Ending

Legendary composer John Williams may have dropped quite the bombshell about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, suggesting that upcoming reshoots are going to change the movie's planned ending...

There's been a lot of chatter surrounding James Mangold's plans for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, with some pretty divisive rumours suggesting the movie will end with Indy passing the torch to his goddaughter Helena. The filmmaker has debunked that (more than once), though it sounds like some big changes are about to be made to the hero's final adventure.

Harrison Ford recently made it clear the movie will serve as his farewell to the role, while Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has promised fans Indiana Jones will never be recast.

Regardless, one of the biggest talking points when it comes to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has been the fact legendary composer John Williams will return to score the action. He's previewed part of that music in Italy, and while addressing those in attendance, dropped quite the bombshell about the upcoming movie.

"So we have just about completed the film," Williams started (via ActioNewz.com). "We have maybe another ending to shoot and to record, maybe in a couple [of] weeks."

Reshoots often change movies, but an alternate ending suggests a decision has been made to totally alter how Indy's story concludes. While we don't believe half the nonsensical rumours floating around online, if test audiences have responded poorly to any sort of possible passing of the torch to set up a new franchise lead, then perhaps it really was once the plan.

Joining Ford in the sequel are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (as the aforementioned Helena), Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Oliver Richters, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.

The movie is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. As noted, John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, is once again composing the score, meaning we can look forward to hearing that classic theme again.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.

@Feralwookiee - nowadays it should be Mickey Mouse and Kathleen Kennedy doing that to Indy.

So they saw the bad reaction, denied it and reshot it. Happens a lot these days.
Bit of a gamble lying about it though.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was terrible. I'm praying they don't screw this up. We need a good send-off for Indy.

I know this is a franchise they want to continue, so they can keep raking in the cash. Which I don't mind, as long as it's done right and not forced. I remember I liked the Adventures of Young Indiana Jones TV show when I was a kid. If they did something similar, or even passed the torch to someone as likeable and charming as Harrison Fords character, that would be great. But I'm not sure they could pull off the latter.

I like Mangold, so I am cautiously optimistic about the end product.

@FreelancePeacekeeper - KOTCS was atrocious. But, I'll always maintain that the 10 minutes in Area 51 was classic Indy.

What he said doesn't mean an alternate ending. Probably an additional scene to be added to the ending somewhere, but it doesn't mean they're changing the movie's ending.

Since many people have already decided to hate this film no matter what, you just know this pretty wake comment will be used as some kind undisputable evidence for what ever absurdly convoluded scenario they want to fit into their very own culture war context. Mangold has already earned the trolltroopers anger by daring to call out people spreading baseless bullshit as facts in order to monger hate online.

@Odin - You can't possibly expect people who, when they've heard/read a rumor about a dumb ending, especially after hearing/reading the ending is being changed, not to suspect that the dumb ending rumor was accurate. Filmakers and billion dollar studios aren't owed trust, all by themselves.

You have no right to decide that James Mangold wasn't lying, just like those who think the rumor about the dumb ending is accurate have no right to decide those who introduced the rumor aren't lying.

@dagenspear - The burden of proof is always on the person making the claim and everybody is innocent until proven guilty. Mangold is the offical source in this context. If you think he should be concidered on the same level as random people on the internet posting rumors without sources, I'm sure you'll be able provided instances from the past that show Mangold to just as unreliable source of information.

@Odin - Who says that the burden of proof is on the person making the claim? And I didn't say anything was proof. I just pointed to what I think is an illogical trust for a filmaker and studio.

You simply don't have the right to decide that someone is wrong for suspecting a rumor might be accurate, if no evidence has been brought forth to prove otherwise, anymore than they have the right to state that you're wrong for blindly believing a filmaker.

James Mangold is a filmaker and apparently has a contract and is a normal human being. He has reason to lie. To trust him I think is not rational. If you think the rumors aren't accurate, well and fine, but you don't decide that others shouldn't think that.

@dagenspear - "Who says that the burden of proof is on the person making the claim?"
So, just out of general curiosity, if someone would now state, without providing any evidence, that other person is a racist and a criminal, everyone should just take that as a fact? Unless the accused provides some counter evidence? Having a difficult time understanding this kind of way of thinking.

Burden of proof being on person that makes a disputable claim is in the foundations of rhetorics, jurisprudence, philosophy and logic.

Way to leave “John Williams” out of the headline there, dude.

If PWB is good, I actually don’t mind if she takes over as the new hero in a follow-up movie. I just don’t want her rise to overshadow Indy’s last ride. Let us enjoy seeing Indy ride off into the sunset (again), and give Helena her big heroine splash page in her own flick.

They are reshooting an epic ending where Indy turns into the Red Hulk, then goes on a rampage and kills everyone responsible for Indy & the Crystal Skull.
