Recently, it was confirmed that Paramount Pictures will be releasing their long in-development reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise in late 2013. Now, with filming expected to begin in a matter of weeks, Paramount have officially announced a December 25th, 2013 release date for the movie, which has Chris Pine, Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner set to star. Kenneth Branagh (who's also playing the film's villain) will helm the reboot, which is said to be a prequel to the Tom Clancy novels. The story with revolve around Branagh's Russian antagonist plotting to destroy the US economy. The movie is expected to be the first of a trilogy.

Additionally, Kevin Costner, who will be playing a key character in Jack Ryan, will reprise that role in Paramount's spin-off Without Remorse, which has Christopher McQuarrie attached to direct. Chris Pine's This Means War co-star Tom Hardy has reportedly been courted by the studio to star in the spin-off. It appears that Paramount Pictures are planning on forming their own Tom Clancy film universe between the two potential film franchises (similar to what Marvel Studios have done with their build up to The Avengers). Without Remorse currently has no release date, but will likely be released shortly after Jack Ryan (if plans go well, of course).

I really enjoyed Clear and Present Danger. This is a great choice to reboot and a talented actor to take over the role. I would like to see them stick with Chris Pine for a series of these movies instead of having this role handed off again so much like it has in the past.

Patriot Games was my favorite too. I love movies with Irish themes. Patriot Games, Blown Away, The Crying Game, The Devil´s Own, The Departed, In The Name Of The Father, The Boxer, Pride & Glory etc.

I hope the title of this movie is gonna change. Jack Ryan just doesnt feel right.

Will anyone care about a Jack Ryan movie (he's not exactly James Bond) starring Chris Pine... ?

Probably not.

@earzmundo, is that an oxymoron?

Hollywood and originality are two words that haven't got with each other for years now!

@Earzmundo the only thing unoriginal is people still commenting on the supposed lack of originality in Hollywood. Going back decades most movies are either novel adaptations, redo's of older films (Scarface), or cash ins on a particular trend (Killing machine action films, buddy cop, rom com, noir, and now remakes)

And someone at Marvel better call Pine for Daredevil... like now

@earzmundo what i mean is this is NOTHING new, yet people claim its just NOW that the movie industry more often than not churning out unoriginal things in an attempt to turn a profit without putting in much effort. As for Total Recall i liked the reboot while thinking the original was just cheeseballs... so politely suck it :)

Kenneth being director and the villian is interesting. Actors that direct their own films usually have a tighter vision. Makes for better film.
Btw. Besides Kenneth, what other connection does it have to cbm?

Guy these big studio films are what keep Hollywood running in order for there to be riskier more original movies.
Sucks but it's a buisness first.
I personally think if they took more "risks" they'd have more success buuut...

Nice, I have good feeling about this reboot.

I didn't even bother with The Sum of All Fears. Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan...

Nuff said.

Ha1frican@ I don't see doing novel adaptation films as being unoriginal. LOTR was an original film experience because no one had brought it to the big screen yet. Same with other novel adaptations that were the first to bring them to the screen. Others that redo films...not so original.

Anybody reckon paramount are using the Tom Clancy brand to put together their own Avengers style shared universe?
