Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is still a little over a month away from premiering, but the early buzz has been exceedingly positive, even good enough for Amazon Studios to already go ahead and order a second season, set to air in 2019.

The series and its star John Krasinski are on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and have shared a few interesting details about the upcoming series as well as seven intriguing new photos as Krasinski steps out into the field as the CIA's top analyst.

Coming in hot on the heels of his critically acclaimed horror/thriller A Quiet Place, Krasinski steps into the shoes of an analyst-turned-secret operative, but Krasinski cautions that his Ryan is far from the traditional action hero. “Let’s be honest, I know I can’t be Superman and I know I can’t be Iron Man. So Jack Ryan sort of becomes the guy that maybe, if you work hard and dedicate yourself, you could be.

Speaking with the trade, showrunners Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Graham Roland (Fringe) explained what made them feel that Krasinski was the right man for the job. “There’s a relatability about Jack Ryan that you don’t find in the Jason Bournes or the James Bonds.” They continue, “We wanted to start our story with this guy who was just an office worker who was being pulled into something that he had never done before, and that was a journey that John was making in his career, going from a guy working on a sitcom based in an office to more of an action hero. It felt like he was the perfect guy.

The story will pickup around three to four years after Ryan joins the CIA and will be an origin story/prequel of sorts. The showrunners explain their reasoning, “We tried to adapt Clear and Present Danger. About a month into it, we realized the reason the Clancy books worked so well was because they were relevant for the time that they were written. So we had to take the spirit of what he did and create our own original story.

Jim Greer (Wendell Pierce) and Jack Ryan (John Krasinski). The star of the series offers one final tease before closing out the interview, “Imagine if you were in your desk job and you got called to come outside the building, and then were picked up in a black car and flown to all these crazy places in the world that you didn’t think you were going, That’s basically what Jack experiences in this show.”

In Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, John Krasinski is taking on a role that’s previously been played by the likes of Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin, and Chris Pine. But this time around, the new Amazon series — which premieres Aug. 31 — follows the CIA analyst as he steps into the field for the first time.

When CIA analyst Jack Ryan stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers his search for answers pulls him from the safety of his desk job and catapults him into a deadly game of cat and mouse throughout Europe and the Middle East, with a rising terrorist figurehead preparing for a massive attack against the US and her allies.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan features:

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan premieres August 31

This looks okay... Never been a big fan of the Jack Ryan series - I do like Hunt for Red October though.

However, I'll watch anything with Krasinski in it so I'll give it a shot.

I have always wondered how he would have done as Cap. I think he would have done great. I just want him to do a CBM

Mr. Fantastic all the way, despite his comedic chops, he's also able to convey a real maturity

A couple of years ago a movie came out, 2013 maybe (?), and it starred Chris Pine. It did not appear it went well. I couldn't see it. I have been seing some pics and news about this here and there now with John Krasinski.

I guess it is worth a look given the buzz. I have absolutely no idea who Jack Ryan is tbh. Sometimes I confuse it a little bit with Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher (the 2nd movie was for me quite awesome than the 1st one) but this might be a new learning experience, specially since I've been checking out new shows while waiting for my CBTV ones to return.

Not subscribed to Amazon so I might have to resort to good ol' webcouchturner or something. :P

I hate Baldwins politics but he was the best Ryan.

@Spartan - I have to agree. He had the look of a CIA analyst and the quiet, contemplative intelligence that went with it. When he figures out what Sean Connery is planning during the meeting, the way he rests his head in his hands and looks at the table, and speaks quietly as if he's trying to convince himself of what he's saying, not anyone else, was exactly how I imagine Jack Ryan to be. It was the best scene in the film.

Him as Mr. Fantasic and Emily as Sue, do it Feige!

The strange thing is I can't see him as Jack Ryan, but I can see him as Superman. He's got the look of a small town farmer turned journalist / superhero, but I don't see him as a former Marine turned CIA analyst. He was good in 13 Hours but I didn't buy him as an elite special forces operator either. I can see him as a politician or a scientist though.

The series looks good, but I'm really disappointed that they're doing another original story when there are so many books to adapt. They could have adapted each book into a season if they wanted. Hopefully they fare better than Shadow Recruit.

Whatever happened to Chris Pine as Jack Ryan? Why on earth would they not get him back? Uggh, this is probably because Pine's in that crappy Wonder Woman farce and too busy to do both. This guy looks more like Chuck than Jack Ryan. No offense to Krasinski, Quiet Place was pretty good, after all. This just seems like a bizarre choice. Is this set in the DCEU? (I know it's supposed to be 'Worlds of DC' now but that just sounds so stupid) We all know how they love radical (ie: sh*tty) casting choices. Lol.

Oh well, at least he's still better than Affleck as Jack Ryan. Not that "better than Affleck" is exactly glowing credentials these days. Yeesh.
