JAMES BOND 25: Here's The Real Reason Why Danny Boyle Walked Away From The Movie

Just weeks before James Bond 25 was expected to start shooting, we learned that director Danny Boyle had walked away from the movie due to "creative differences." Now, some new details about what actually happened have surfaced and while we initially heard that producers were unhappy with the script focusing on a Russian villain and a "modern-day Cold War," it also said that an even bigger issue was Boyle's desire to cast Polish actor Tomasz Kot (Cold War) as the movie's unidentified lead bad guy.

Apparently, he was viewed as a "left-field" choice to play the character and it sounds like Daniel Craig may not have been entirely happy with the decision as he plays a key role in all casting choices.

It sounds like things were bad from the start, though, as longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was reportedly "infuriated" by Boyle's insistence that he bring in his own team, including writing partner John Hodge (which resulted in a script by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade being put on hold). Whether or not that will now be used remains to be seen but it's now unlikely the movie will meet its planned release date on October 25th, next year. So, what comes next for the franchise after this upheaval?

There's already speculation that Daniel Craig will now walk away from the role and 007 will be recast but we'll have to wait and see. What do you think comes next? Share your thoughts in the usual place!

Craig you dumbass! Boyle is an incredible director. 28 Days Later is one of the greatest horror movies of all time to me

Boyle would've delivered something special, bad move.

Screw Craig, just get Nolan to reboot Bond the way he wants.

I don't get it, what's the problem with Kot?

@MinoMininni - Yeah, what a ridiculous way to cause controversy, what a joke.

Lots of directors have their OWN TEAMS nowadays. I think studios should learn to adapt to that sometimes, especially if you're getting someone like Boyle. He could've brought something fresh to the table.

@BlackBeltJones - At the same time, studios take the biggest hit financially if the film fails, so it's understandable they want to be involved and hire people they trust.

@Philip - very true. its compromise on both sides. I would argue the Bond films are facing a level of monotony that warrants a grand shake up creatively.

Boyle would've been a welcme addition. The films needs to take risks and I think Broccoli and company need to realize this.

@BlackBeltJones - I'd agree. And I think they know this, which is why Boyle was hired in the first place.

But if he wants to bring all "his people" to work on this, I get why the producers might be a bit wary, given Boyle's resume. Not a whole lot of large productions on there, and I do believe that is an different beast altogether.

@BlackBeltJones - The Bond franchise is the longest running film franchise in cinematic history so it is to be expected the Eon Productions are going to be the ones pushing the buttons and holding the reigns rather than just letting a director come in and make all the decisions, even one as good as Danny Boyle.

It is a shame though as the prospect of a Danny Boyle directed Bond movie had me excited, but perhaps they should bring back Martin Campbell as he has a good track record with successful Bond movies (GoldenEye and Casino Royale). He ushered in the Craig era, perhaps it would be fitting to see him send it off too?

@bcom - I'm all for Campbell returning. I hold Casino Royale above Skyfall.

@BlackBeltJones - Casino Royale is definitely my favorite of the Craig era movies too and Golden Eye was may fave of the Brosnan era.

I just think that Campbell has a really good grasp on what makes a great Bond movie. He gets that mix of character, story and action just right.

@bcom - Casino Royale, Goldeneye, & Skyfall are definitely the 3 best Bond movies since the Connery/Moore era. Seems like Campbell is great at laying the foundation for the “next” Bond era. So maybe he should start the next era after Craig?

@smoke317 - I'd really like to see him end an era, so to speak. Give Daniel Craig the grand send off he deserves.
