NO TIME TO DIE Producers Confirm That The Next James Bond Will NOT Be A Woman

"The name's Bond. Jane Bond." That's not something we'll ever hear uttered on the big screen according to the franchise's producers, as they confirm that there are no plans for a female version of the spy.

No Time to Die will mark Daniel Craig's final appearance as James Bond, and speculation about who the next 007 will be has been running rampant since before cameras even started rolling on that movie. Many fans would like to see an actor of colour having their martinis shaken and not stirred, but what about speculation that a woman could take over the role?

During an interview with Variety, longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson confirmed that they haven't begun casting Craig's replacement yet, but it won't be a woman.

"He can be of any color, but he is male," Broccoli explained. "I believe we should be creating new characters for women - strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that."

It's a valid point and while we won't be seeing "Jane Bond" anytime soon, Wilson made it clear that the franchise could indeed include a non-white Bond. "You think of him as being from Britain or the Commonwealth, but Britain is a very diverse place."

The ship has seemingly sailed on Idris Elba taking over from Craig, but it's certainly exciting to see where things could go next for the long-running franchise.

I like she unintentionally says that men aren't that particularly interesting.

@Reeds2Much - Not what she was saying.

She’s saying it’s lazy and women deserve an original character with her own internal struggles and backstory and motivation.

And by saying "He can be any color" she unintentionally implied that they don't deserve original characters with their own internal struggles, backstories, and motivations.

@Reeds2Much - Um no. You’re reading too much into it. She was speaking in terms of his race. He’s British and a man. Always has been. He can be any race because the U.K. is diverse.
She won’t gender bend him because an original character would be far more interesting and less lazy than just making James Bond “Jane” Bond.

He's "always has been" a white male or he can be any race and gender because the UK is diverse. Pick one.

Good. Race swap him, keep him white, idc.

James Bond is man.

@regularmovieguy - Bond's whiteness isn't intrinsic to him, but his chauvinism and the commentary on that very much is. I think a smart way would be to just get a new female 007 agent and have her take over the franchise, if they want to take it that direction.

Also, Bond wasn't the most complex character pre-Craig and as problematic as it may sound the more toxic elements being subverted were some of the more interesting moments from Casino Royale (the Vesper sub-plot)

Idris Elba is nearly 50. I don't want the next bond to be in his fifties when starting, I want an era. Craig has lasted almost 15 years and 5 films, I think thirties would be a good jumping off point.

My personal picks are Henry Cavill, Henry Golding, and Daniel Kaluuya.

I think any of those 3 have the charisma it takes for the role

@DannRamm113 - Will probably go with a younger actor, I could see Harry Styles, if they want a black actor, not sure. Only young black british actor I can think of is John Boyega or Jovan Adepo

Honestly the best answer they could possibly give.

A new character would be FAR more interesting and imaginative than just gender swapping an iconic character like James Bond.
