Charlize Theron Hasn't Signed On For Any MAD MAX Sequels Yet

A sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road hasn't been officially announced yet, but we do know both director George Miller and star Tom Hardy will be back for more Mad Max whenever it is. What about Charlize Theron?

Mad Max: Fury Road was undoubtedly one of the most fun rides of the summer. Shortly after its initial release, director George Miller announced that a sequel was in the works, tentatively titled Mad Max: The Wasteland, and even before that, star Tom Hardy had revealed that he was already signed on for three future Mad Max adventures post-Fury Road.

Based on a few of Miller's earlier comments, where he stated how he had completed the script for a film titled Mad Max: Furiosa, it was somewhat assumed that Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron, who portrayed the show-stealing Imperator Furiosa, would be back in the next installment. However, according to Theron that doesn't seem to be the case, at least not yet that is.

In a recent interview with USA Today, while promoting her latest release Dark Places, Theron revealed that not only was she not signed on any future Mad Max films, that she hadn't even heard about Mad Max: Wasteland yet: "What's Wasteland? This is all news to me. I have not heard anything like that."

Considering Warner Bros. hasn't even officially announced the follow-up and that
the film is still in the very early stages of development, this statement from Theron doesn't necessarily mean she won't be back. Also, considering the warm reception her character received, it would probably be in everyone's best interest to bring back Theron in one capacity or another.

From director George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary “Mad Max” franchise, comes “Mad Max: Fury Road,” a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.

She's pretty much perfect.

Why would she sign on for a sequel?

All of the Max films have been about Max moving on and around facing his demons and helping others.

No one besides Max has appeared in any other Mad Max films.

But I'd love for her to come back though.

Mad Max Fury Road is still the best film of 2015.

The MCU (Max Cinematic Universe) ethered the MCU (Momoa Cinematic Universe), the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), the MCU (Mutant Cinematic Universe), and the MCU (Mara Cinematic Universe) with Mad Max Fury Road alone.

Furiousa was great but I wanted to see a Mad Max movie not Furiousa gets Fast and Furious movie.

Wasn't this obvious? Since the movies center around max he would meet new people, and besides her character would be busy running everything in that little city I forgot what it was called

Theron was never supposed to be in Wasteland, she was rumored to be in her spin-off Mad Max movie.

Favorite movie of the year so far but that said, wouldn't mind if she didn't return.

Mad Max: Fury Road was Furiosa's movie and she has a beautifully constructed, full-circle and satisfying conclusion. Doesn't need to return.

Good, she shouldn't return either, every mad max movie has been a new stand-alone story of Max and there isn't really anything you could do with her character now, I mean isn't she running that place now (cant actually remember).

@LEVITIKUZ

200% agreed!

MM is the only movie I saw this year worth re-watching again and again. Saw it 3 times in 3 days.

And all CMBs were meh to shit this year.

Don't think she and Tom got along on that first movie so don't wait by the phone Ms.Theron

@13echo

Her and Tom are cool now.

The problem was they were filming in 100 degree temperature in the middle of the desert. Both Tom and Charlize are passionate actors. I believe the script wasn't fully completed.

It was just a bunch of issues into one but her and Tom are cool now they both say. Tom even gave her a gift.

I'd like a cameo, but the best thing about Mad Max is that each chapter introduces new locales and characters, with only the legend of Max tying it all together.

I'd prefer her to be in either a DC or Marvel film, this way you get to see her kicking butt. On another subject I also would enjoy seeing George Miller doing another MM film. But I so would like to see what he could do with a different MM movie and that being a Martian Manhunter movie. The wasteland is almost already Mars, so why not go the next step and make it so.

Miller had a plan to make the sequel a prequel about furiosa but now it's going to be titled wasteland and focus on something entirely different

Can we get George miller to use his clout to bring back Dredd with him at the helm and Alex Garland writing thr script

Awesome movie. As much as I liked Furiosa I down want to see another movie with her in as the main. Mad Max needs to move on to other adventures.

She completely stole the show in Fury Road, but I'm not sure she should actually be shoehorned into a sequel when her arc was wrapped up so satisfyingly. Tell new stories with new characters for Max to play off of. That's what Mad Max has always been about.

I thought Max was gonna continue on to new adventures and meet new people (aka, new actors).

She was great though, it's just that her story began and ended in Fury Road. It's time for new adventures

Every theatrical film I've seen in 2015 has sucked except:

Mad Mad Fury Road
Ex Machina
Age of Ultron
Ant-Man
Kingsmen
Mission Impossible Rogue Nation (thought I didn't really like it all that much)

I need to go see more foreign/indie films.

I want her as Mera alongside Momoa. She looks tough as a nail and she can indeed fit together with Aquaman as Mera.

She was great, wouldn't mind her to come back, but since these are the Mad Max movies and characters don't stick around I didn't expect her to be back.

The only reason Charlize Theron should be brought back is to play a whole other character entirely, which is common in the Mad Max series.

Didn't care for the movie. I wanted a Mad Max movie and while the action was non-stop, there was no character development and no real Mad Max presence. I hope the next three prove to be better than betting on complete action and actually build characters up and the storyline.

Best movie of the year. she doesnt need to return, thats not the style. And people saying that the movie was about FURIOSA, and not MAX. Have you seen the other MAD MAX's? Besides the original, They're always about Max finding and helping other people in situations so stop complaining
