The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that 2015's Mission: Impossible 5 has found its screenwriter in Will Staples. Staples is best known for his work on video games such as 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and 2013's Need for Speed: Rivals. Lately, he has been making the transition to film and is currently attached to several films in development including Warner Bros.' Blood & Treasure, which has the new Batman, Ben Affleck attached to star and direct, King of Heists with Jeremy Renner attached to star, and a Fox film titled Myth with Sam Worthington attached. Staples replaces Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce, who was initially attached to the film when it was announced.

Christopher McQuarrie is set to direct with superstar Tom Cruise set to return. Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are also likely to reprise their roles from the previous film(s). It has also been rumored that Jessica Chastain may be joining the cast as well.

Mission: Impossible 5 is expected to hit theaters December 25, 2015.

Only like the 3rd movie in this franchise. The 1st one was boring, 2nd was over the top and just stupid, 3rd was awesome, 4th was boring and overrated.

I haven't seen the last couple of these but have heard they've been ok. Still no in any rush to see them or a new one.

I did however see Iron Man 3 last night again - pretty much from the Trevor scene onward. The movie rules. A few third act issues that most superhero flicks have but it's still awesome. Once Ultron comes out and Tony's back people will be more vocal about singing its praises.

Iron Man 3 had a writer? I bet he turned in one hell of a terrible script if he wrote that maniacal mess.

It's going to be very hard to top the last movie.

@mbembet I confirm your comment.

@grif I almost thought one of his writing credits was the Need for Speed movie... That would be so much worse.

Hmm...I kind of hope this gets pushed to 2016. Less competition for Star Wars.

The fired the IM3 writer ? Whatever for? Turning the Manadarin, ironman'a only arch villain, into a drug addicted, unemployed actor was genius!!!

Lol

Iron Man 3 is terrible! Glad they got rid of the writer!

I like the last two Mission Impossible films. Hope they'll continue using IMAX camera's!

You made the right choice. I wish I could erase IM3 from my memory eternally. That movie should have been called Iron Pussy.

Yeah, because this article has CBM written all over it... Here's a writer from the most critically acclaimed CBM since Dark Knight, let's shit on him because he's not attached to a terrible project anymore. Mission: Impossible has been utter crap for years. The first one is incredible, and after that, they suck, hard.

Glad Mission Impossible 5 dropped Drew Pearce.

I'm uncertain however on the new writer, he wrote Mordern Warfare 3 which don't get me wrong it was an enjoyable game to play through it's just there could be a risk due to the fact that the writer's major focus is writing plots for video games.

I really loved Mission Impossible 3 and i loved Mission Impossible 4 even more so i'm looking forward to Mission Impossible 5.

IM3 was a poorly written movie so it's wise to get another writer.
MI films are good action movies. Think what ya want but Cruise can act & sell the action.

Some asswipe commented that Cruise isn't believable in the MI films...yea right, the guy does more of his stunts than anyone other than Jackie Chan.
