According to The Wrap, Gosling is in early talks for the role but may not be able to seal the deal because of his commitment to Logan's Run..



Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in Disney's "The Lone Ranger," TheWrap has learned.

It's early, and Gosling's schedule might not permit him to take the role of the Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Gosling is starring as Logan in "Logan's Run" which is scheduled to begin production this fall.


Gosling was in talks to star as The Green Lantern at one point, and is long overdue a big movie of this type in many people's eyes. He has recently won acclaim for his performance in Blue Valentine, and was nominated for a best actort Oscar for his work in Half Nelson back in 2006.

Such weird casting choices. JOhnny depp not my first for tanto, and Gosling to me is def not The Lone Ranger.

Johnny Depp as Tonto and Ryan Gosling as The Lone Ranger this casting aint right at all.

In all honesty, i've never read or watched etc anything that involves"The Lone Ranger" so have no knowledge on the character. However looking up images of the character on the web, i reckon Brad Pitt would be a perfect match. Easily fits the cowboy image (Assassination of Jesse James) and if the role includes some comedy, i feel he proved he has comedic talents in 'Burn After Reading', 'Snatch' and 'Fight Club'. Would be an interesting combo too if Johnny Depp has been cast as his sidekick or whatever...

ahh it'll be fine. Thats not bad casting at all. It'd be nice to see a new face in a leading role. I'm tired of seeing the same 5 people as every leading man. Besides... they can't all be filming 5 movies at once any way.

This is great news for any Ranger fans. The Lone Ranger is a forgotten hero these days. If they can cast Gossling and Depp that would raise interest in huge numbers of fans who would otherwise be completely uninterested in this film.

Henry Cavill, Chris Pine, Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Worthington or Gabriel Macht would be good choice as Lone Ranger

Hawk@ Not for this Ranger fan. I grew up watching the show. Probably watched just about every episode. Casting big names that don't fit the role and creating a possible abomination of what the Lone Ranger and Tonto were does nothing for Ranger lore. I am more upset about the Depp casting. Should have been Adam Beach or Eddie Spears.

I am a Lone Ranger fan.

Clayton Moore was great!

Not a big fan of Gosling, however, the man can act. This may be a pretty good choice.

am i the only one who thinks that the casting would probably be better if they switched the actors' roles. Depp would probably be a better Ranger than Tonto. Gosling as The Ranger and Depp as Tonto is like having Chris O Donnel as Batman and Val Kilmer or George Clooney as Robin

Gosling has a natural Texas accent, which is a plus to me, since he'll be playing a Texas Ranger and all. Of all the Mouseketards, he is, by far, the most talented.

Crappy casting The Lone Ranger played by a guy thatlooks like a dooshy barfly. And Johnny Depp as Tonto? Sounds like another craaptastic classic character turned into a comedic figure.
