This summer, detectives Mike Lowery (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) return for their biggest and baddest adventure yet: Bad Boys: Ride or Die!
The pair will go from Miami's finest to the city's Most Wanted when they discover that their former Captain has been posthumously framed for a crime he didn't commit, ultimately landing in enemy crosshairs themselves. With their backs now against the wall, they'll have to do whatever it takes to unravel a massive conspiracy and save the day before the clock hits zero.
In addition to Smith and Lawrence as the titular Bad Boys, the supporting cast features Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nuñez, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Jacob Scipio, Melanie Liburd, Tasha Smith, Rhea Seehorn, Tiffany Haddish, John Salley, DJ Khaled, Dennis Greene, Joyner Lucas, and Joe Pantoliano.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Ms. Marvel; Snowfall; Batgirl) return to helm the upcoming sequel after the wildly successful Bad Boys for Life, which grossed over $426.5 million on an estimated $90 million production budget in 2020. It was the highest-grossing American film at the worldwide box office that year and the fourth-highest grossing film overall globally, which essentially guaranteed a follow-up.
Chris Bremner (The Man from Toronto; Bad Boys for Life) and Will Beall (Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F; Zack Snyder's Justice League; Aquaman) wrote the screenplay. Jerry Bruckheimer, Will Smith, Chad Oman, and Doug Belgrad are attached as producers, with Barry Waldman, Mike Stenson, James Lassiter, Jon Mone, Chris Bremner, and Martin Lawrence onboard as executive producers.
The first social reactions hit last night and were exceedingly positive, so it seems as though Smith and Lawrence have yet another hit on their hands and the film should be one of the most enjoyable cinematic adventures of the year.
However, whether it repeats the original film's box office success remains to be seen, especially with some competition expected from Ishana Night Shyamalan's The Watchers its debut weekend and Disney/Pixar's Inside Out 2 the following week. It will also have to contend with the third week of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, albeit to a considerably lesser degree. Regardless, early tracking is pointing toward a huge opening in the $55 million to $75 million range, so expect some early fireworks.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die hits theaters on June 7! Tickets are now on sale, with Early Access Screenings starting on Wednesday, June 5!
