Ubisoft Shows Off The Impressive Game Engine Powering AVATAR: FRONTIERS OF PANDORA

Following the reveal of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft released a video showcasing the tech behind the Snowdrop engine and how it leverages the power of next-gen hardware to bring Pandora to life.

After years of hearing about an Avatar video game, Ubisoft finally revealed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora earlier this month. The developer gave us our first look at the first-person, action-adventure game during E3 and provided an overview of what we can expect through a first look trailer.

In a new video released today, Ubisoft goes into a bit more depth about the technology behind Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The game is built on the latest iteration of the Snowdrop engine, Ubisoft's proprietary game engine created by Massive Entertainment, the studio developing the game in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney.

The Snowdrop engine is probably most recognized for Tom Clancy's The Division franchise. As Technical Art Director Sebastian Lindoff explains, the engine allowed Ubisoft to build "amazing cities." But Pandora, of course, is a much different environment, brimming with life and majestic in scale. To capture the natural beauty of Pandora, Ubisoft had to make massive improvements to the Snowdrop engine.

Check out the video below, as Ubisoft developers dive deeper into the technical details behind Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and how they are helping recreate this immersive world from the deep dense jungles to the grand vistas high in the skies.

Built using the latest iteration of the Snowdrop engine, and developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the alluring world of Pandora with all of its beauty and danger in an immersive, open world experience.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is slated to launch in 2022 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia and Luna. The game features an original, standalone story in which you'll play as a Na'vi and embark on a journey across the never-before-seen Western Frontier of Pandora.
