Suicide Squad director David Ayer continues to keep supporters of the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement on the hook, this time with a new look at an alternate design for Jared Leto's Clown Prince of Crime...

Much to what we're sure is Warner Bros.' relief, the furore surrounding the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement does appear to have died down a little in recent months. Zack Snyder has moved on to a number of projects for Netflix, and regardless of how good the Snyder Cut of Justice League was, it's clear the studio has no plans to revisit that particular iteration of the franchise.

We also thought filmmaker David Ayer was done teasing his "Ayer Cut" of 2016's Suicide Squad, but he's again shared a never before seen photo from the DC Comics adaptation.

This time, we get what was clearly an earlier version of Jared Leto's Joker tattoos. With eyebrows made up of "HaHaHaHa", he also has an exaggerated smile similar to his comic book counterpart thanks to more body art we're sure would have been divisive among fans.

However, we're sure many of you will be pleased to see the "Damaged" tattoo is nowhere to be seen!

While it's certainly interesting to get a new behind the scenes look at Suicide Squad, it's been five years since the movie came out and a semi-reboot hit theaters and HBO Max earlier this year. As a result, we're not entirely sure what Ayer is going for, but #ReleaseTheAyerCut fans will likely appreciate it.

Leto reprised the role of The Joker in Zack Snyder's Justice League, but will make the leap to the Marvel Universe for Morbius on January 28, 2022.

@SnideCut - I am so dumbfounded by Ayer, that I simply couldn't think of any. That's a fair defense right?

What. The. [frick].

As if the one that made it on screen wasn’t already a millennial try-hard cluster[frick], this one is actually worse. I honestly don’t think that was possible. I really didn’t 😟

@Waddles - lol Sorry, I was actually referring to the tattoos - I don’t know what the [frick] is with young adults plastering themselves in tatts these days. I was super excited for Leto’s Joker, but that look is so hilariously try hard I couldn’t take a word he said seriously. I bet he’s got a massive Instagram following 🤣 #SENSITIVEBADBOY #GRILLZ #THUGLIFE #BATMANISABULLY

@Waddles - you know for all the clowning around we are doing (see what I I there....) I have to admit.... when you take a step back and look at the Snyderverse from afar... its not a bad alternate reality take. Like if all of this had been a comic and not DCs first attempt at a connected cinematic universe, I might actually enjoy the DCEU a lot more.

It's only when they claim "this is the definitive modern take on these characters" when we say, "......uh.... the F it is!"

Are these interesting takes? Yes! Pretty weird and new and somewhat clever takes... they did stuff that spoke to them about the characters and tried to make them something.... different...

But they aren't bad, just not right lol they aren't the definitive versions, on par with the comics. They are elseworld visions by directors who were encouraged to change what they felt like changing.

Looking at this image, I don't like it, but I kinda more than anything respect the depths he was willing to go to try to find HIS Joker, creatively.

@Waddles - like if I was directing a suicide squad movie and an artist brought me this as proof of concept, id sat "No this isn't right, but I like the creativity and the ideas."

If I asked for new Joker design ideas and someone brought me thus, I wouldn't pick this as the design but I'd pick them to be on my creative team because you need bold new ideas in Design.

Everything about this Joker is terrible, probably the movie was butchered by studio execs, but was horribly conceived and designed from the beginning. And these desperate attempts to get another paycheck like ZS did are just sad, you have to do a somewhat decent movie in the first place when you try to stir up your "fanbase" (or to even have one).
