Seven years after Dexter Morgan went off the grid, Showtime has announced that they are reviving Dexter for a ten-episode limited series with Golden Globe-winner Michael C. Hall set to return as the titular serial killer.

Original showrunner Clyde Phillips, who worked on the series from its inception right through to the jaw-dropping season four finale, is also back steering the ship, which should be welcome news as fans and critics often consider the show's early seasons to be its best.

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago. We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series.  Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.” said Gary Levine, Co-President of Entertainment at Showtime.

A revival has more or less been in the cards for the past five years or so, but it wasn't until recently that Hall and Phillips cracked an idea that they were passionate about actually doing. It also makes sense that the network would want to revisit this show so soon, especially after it ended on a highly controversial note with - *SPOILER ALERT* - Dexter Morgan faking his own death following Debra's (Jennifer Carpenter) demise and leaving his son Harrison (Jadon Wells) in the care of his girlfriend Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) while he went off into the woods to live as a lumberjack.

No word yet on any other potential returning cast members, but production is currently slated to begin early 2021, with the premium cable network already eyeing a likely fall premiere date.
