The first clip from Obi-Wan Kenobi has been released, and it features "Ben" Kenobi on Tatooine having a major disagreement with Owen Lars about what the future should hold in store for Luke Skywalker...

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are doing the rounds to promote Obi-Wan Kenobi ahead of its Disney+ premiere less than a week from today, and we now have the first clip from the show.

Despite the fact we've already seen a fair bit of footage from the show, it's quite surreal seeing McGregor play this character again. He hasn't lost a beat, though, and the exchange that follows between "Ben" Kenobi and Owen Lars says a lot about both men and their hopes for Luke Skywalker.

Clearly, Owen has no interest in Obi-Wan putting his nephew at risk, while the Jedi Master appears intent on fulfilling his promise to train the boy as he once trained his father, Anakin Skywalker.

Take a look at this first Obi-Wan Kenobi clip (via SFFGazette.com) in the player below:

Obi-Wan Kenobi's story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where the hero faced his greatest defeat - the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader (we're hoping to also see him as Anakin Skywalker).

Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. Deborah Chow directed all six episodes of the show which premieres on May 27 with its first two episodes and wraps up on June 22.

As someone who is a very and I mean VERY moderate fan of Star Wars (Haven't finished Mandalorion season 1 and haven't even attempted book of boba fett) I got to say I am actually looking forward to this a lot. This clip especially looks interesting

I have faith in this show, as long as Ben is the MAIN CHARACTER

@bobevanz - He will be... until episode 4 and 5 will center around Caspian Andor and Ahsoka Tano until the inevitable team-up finale.

@bobevanz - He won’t be. That inquisitor woman will have more character development than him. She will be the tragic hero in the end. She either won’t kill Obi Wan or Luke and will either sacrifice herself for them or be killed by Vader for not following orders.

Call it a hunch. That’s one of the reasons she is the only inquisitor to look normal.

@SpaceParanoids - tbf, as far as development goes, how much can Kenobi grow? where we leave him in ep iii and where he was at the start of iv. This can flesh out his relationship with Vader but not much else.

@SpaceParanoids - I kinda hope the Inquisitor that serves as primary antagonist doesn't die for once or get redeemed.

We know Obi-Wan can do some force mind tricks, so maybe he just waves his hand and make her forget all the key information.

Kathleen Kennedy : "We have learned from our mistakes with Solo. We're not planning to recast any of the Star Wars legacy characters. In fact, we're moving away from the Skywalker saga."

Also Kathleen Kennedy : promotes a series with recasted characters from the Skywalker saga.

Though to be fair, recasting Han Solo was never one of the main reasons why the movie bombed. The film was just not very good (though somewhat decent and enjoyable enough) and didn't seemed like an essential viewing in a season full of very anticipated movies like Avengers : Infinity War and so soon after The Last Jedi opened a few months before. The bad press from the very troubled production (which Kennedy herself was instrumental in creating) was also a major factor in its critical failure : people just didn't have much faith in that movie and they were mostly right.

That scene would hold so much more weight if Owen was ACTUALLY Luke’s uncle. If he was Anakin’s brother or Beru was his sister then it would mean so much more.

As it stands that guy is the son of some guy named Clieg who married Anakin’s mother and had no attachment to Anakin and only bet him once.

@SpaceParanoids -

He clearly thinks of Luke as his family though and is raising him like a son.

It didn't prevent Luke from forgetting the trauma of Owen and Beru's deaths almost instantly, while the trauma of the death of some old guy he knew for about a day or two keeps haunting him several years later.

@SpaceParanoids - However Luke is now 8? 9? So they have had him for about a decade. They raised him as their own so there would be a heightened sense of protection for the boy.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/21/2022, 1:55 PM
@Amuro - And there is my point.
Owen and Beru are meaningless.
They are boiled down to “there’s nothing for me here now”
Stinkor1

@SpaceParanoids - regardless of any blood ties to anakin, he is still for all intents and purposes Luke’s adoptive father. And he’s been raising Luke for YEARS now. As gruff as he is, he undoubtedly loves Luke and is trying to protect him from what happened to anakin.

@SpaceParanoids - Thanks for clearing that up. For as big of a Star Wars fan as I am, I found myself trying to remember how that guy could be Luke's uncle given that Anakin had no siblings. I was going to post the question, but I was afraid of having Molotov cocktails made of blue milk being lobbed at me (hell yeah that stuff is flammable - that's why only a Jedi can drink it).
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/21/2022, 1:58 PM
@WowMuchComicBoo - Protection for the boy yes, but connection to his father no.
With the prequels now the following exchange carries far less weight:

Beru: Luke’s just not a farmer Owen. He has too mich of his father in him.
Owen: That’s what I’m afraid of.

Yes they know how bad Vader is, but not having Owen be Anakin’s brother lessens the heartbreak m.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/21/2022, 2:01 PM
@Stinkor1 - Oh I have no doubt about that, but the weight, the gravity of his protection and his comments on A New Hope are significantly lessened because he is an Uncle in name only.
SpaceParanoids

@StSteven - I’ll take the cocktails for you.
FishyZombie
FishyZombie - 5/21/2022, 2:18 PM
@SpaceParanoids - if he and Vader were actually brothers that would add too many questions and baggage. It would make Ben letting Owen raise him even more questionable than it already is given he lets Luke keep the skywalker name. Wouldn't it be risky to assume Vader would never keep tabs on his brother? Not to mention let his own men slaughter him. Given how his love for his family being like his one redeeming personality trait after becoming a sith. Luke's aunt and uncle just aren't that important to the overall story. When they die they're barely mentioned again. Maybe if the OT did a better job with the pathos of their fate it would have given prequel stuff more room to give Anakin and Owen a deeper connection. But obviously Lucas didn't have the whole saga planned out.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/21/2022, 2:32 PM
@FishyZombie - “ Wouldn't it be risky to assume Vader would never keep tabs on his brother?”

There are ways around that.
1) Have Owen be Anakin’s older brother and be mean to Anakin even though he deep down cared about him.
2) Have the rift increase because Anakin is freed and Owen is jealous.
3) Make the time on Tatoonie more painful for Anakin so the trauma of the planet makes him reluctant to return (which they kind of already did with his mother dying there).
4) Owen takes Beru’s last name to hide his identity once he finds out about Anakin being Vader.
And that would make the death of Owen more tragic that the Stormtoopers killed Anakin’s brother all because they were looking for some plans.
And the killing of his brother is what motivates Luke which would ultimately result in Vader’s demise and redemption,

If thought out better this all could have been amazingly complex and character driven.
