Ahead of its official premiere next month on Disney Channel, we have a brand new trailer for
Big Hero 6 The Series. Although the new animated series technically debuted last year with the release of the 43-minute episode,
"Baymax Returns," Big Hero 6 The Series will formally premiere next month with two new episodes, titled
Issue 188 and
Big Roommates, respectively.
Big Hero 6 The Series is based on Disney's 2014 film (which was loosely based on the Marvel comic book series) and is actually set after the events of the movie. As such, the show has slightly retconned various parts of the ending of the movie, most notably the Big Hero 6's team identities are still kept a secret. There are other differences as well, but overall the series very much remains faithful to the film.
Big Hero 6 earned $222.5 million at the domestic box office, with a worldwide estimated total of $657.8 million. It was Walt Disney Animation Studios' third biggest domestic release of all time and 2014's highest-grossing animated movie.
The adventure continues for 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his compassionate, cutting-edge robot Baymax. If dealing with the academic pressure of being the new kid at the prestigious San Fransokyo Institute of Technology weren't enough, it’s off campus where things really get tricky. Hiro and Baymax, along with their friends Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Go Go and Fred, unite to form the legendary superhero team Big Hero 6, protecting their city from a colorful array of scientifically-enhanced villains intent on creating chaos and mayhem!
The two new episodes of
Big Hero 6 The Series will air on Saturday, June 9, at 9:00 a.m. ET on Disney Channel. Two additional new episodes -
Fred's Bro-Tillion and
Food Fight - will follow on June 10, 2018.
