Concept Art From Disney's Abandoned TOY STORY 3

In 2004, a feud between Pixar's CEO Steve Jobs and Disney's CEO Michael Eisner came to a head and the partnership between the two companies ended rather abruptly. Disney didn't wait around to figure out their next course of action as they quickly established their own Pixar-like animation studio, Circle 7 Animation. Disney's deal with Pixar gave them ownership to Pixar's feature films, characters and sequel rights, so Disney had Circle 7 Animation begin working on Finding Nemo 2, Monsters Inc. 2, and Toy Story 3. In 2006, Disney's new CEO Bob Iger worked out a deal with Steve Jobs in which Disney purchased Pixar for $7.4 billion and put Pixar's leadership in control of Disney's animation department. Soon after the deal was struck Circle 7 Animation was shutdown and most of their employees were absorbed by Pixar. All the sequels Circle 7 had been working on were scrapped.

Below, you can find key frame and concept art, as well as character designs from Circle 7's Toy Story 3 that were created by Jim Martin and Shane Zalvin. In that version, written by Jim Herzfeld ("Meet The Parents"), the other toys become concerned when Buzz Lightyear starts to malfunction and decide to ship him to the Taiwanese that originally built him, in the hopes they they could repair him. Soon after, Woody and the rest toys are shocked to learn that there has been a massive recall on all Buzz Lightyear toys. Fearing that Buzz will be destroyed Woody and his gang (Rex, Slinky, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Jessie, and Bullseye) head off on a rescue mission. Over in Taiwan, Buzz is making new friends with other toys that have been recalled.

Pixar's Toy Story 3 - As Andy prepares to depart for college, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of Andy's faithful toys wonder what will become of them. But, when a mix-up lands them at Sunnyside Daycare, they meet a host of new toys and soon discover a wild new adventure is just beginning! Take an amazing journey with some of the most beloved characters in movie history and discover what being a friend is truly all about.

I'd like to see this become a tv special or something like that. The idea is interesting and getting to see some more asian inspired toys in the series would be cool.

How can anyone say this is a good idea? This is literally the exact plot of Toy Story 2 but with Buzz in the place of Woody.

A few of the ideas carried over into Toy Story 3 it looks like. But a great concept still! I feel with a few reworks this can work for Toy Story 4, as long as it doesn't feel too much like Toy Story 2 in which it was Woody instead kind of. That art of Buzz in Woody's arms makes me feel some type of feels :(

So they were going to introduce a better space ranger than buzz?? Cool

@ImKennyPowers That scene informs the audience right from the beginning what kind of kids movie Brave Little Toaster was going to be. Lampy almost died as well remember. And Toaster had that twisted nightmare with the clown and dangling from a curtain rod over a bathtub filled with water. That used parts shop was basically like an insane asylum where the head psychiatrist performed surgery and sold patient's organs on the black market. And Worthless is literally a song sung by cars on death row.

Always thought this story had a good idea, but ultimately just seemed to be more of a rehash of Toy Story 2. Glad they went the way they did in Toy Story 3.

That said, they could take elements from this story and bring to Toy Story 4. They did keep the fact that the toys were going to be thrown away though from the original draft.

I was 19 when the first TS (written by Joss Whedon, BTW) came out, and in my 30s by the last. And I consider it one of the best series ever.
