David Fincher On The Goon

David Fincher gives a brief update on where The Goon film stands at this time and what it will take to get it going.

Quint from over at Ain't It Cool News had the good fortune of speaking with Director David Fincher. One of the tidbits I found interesting about their conversation was when Quint took the opportunity to ask Fincher for information on The Goon film based on Eric Powell's Dark Horse Comic, the trailer for which was seen at Comic Con.

One thing I wanted to touch on before we wrap this up is The Goon movie. Can you give me an update on that?

Animation that isn’t singing furry animals is hard. Especially something as outré as Eric Powell. And it’s his script! (laughs) It’s main-lined Eric Powell. We kind of went out with it at the end of the year and I don’t know that a lot of people were paying attention, but hopefully someone will step in and want to (pick it up).

I gotta hope there are more avenues for animation than… I certainly wouldn’t call The Goon “adult animation.” I think that ends up starting to sound like Fritz The Cat and that’s not what it is. It’s more like “teen animation.” And it’s funny!

Hopefully this will be the year that people go, “Wait a minute! We don’t all have to be trying to imitate Pixar!”

I’m a big fan of the comics…

Oh, it’s amazing!

Hawksblueyes: For those who missed it during Comic Con, here is another look at the trailer featuring Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown, courtesy of Trailer Addict. I certainly hope somebody gets behind this because what little there is of it looks intense.

Can anybody tell me if this is an ongoing comic? Or is it a short run like Kick Ass? Also, the Goon reminds me of the character who used the defibulator on Superman when Doomsday killed him.

It will be a crying shame if nobody bothers to pick this up. The trailer is probably the most entertaining 2 1/2 minutes I have seen on here.

The comic kinda bored me (the pace of it really didn't sit well with me), but I really enjoyed that trailer.

Now I'll be pissed if it doesn't get picked up.

Love the Goon comics. The promo trailer was amazing, based on that alone I'm shocked that it hasn't been picked up. Here's praying that it'll happen soon. This is one of those dream projects that will haunt all Goon fans if it doesn't get made.
