THE INCREDIBLES 2 Will Start Right Where The First Film Left Off

Fans of Disney's The Incredibles have been very vocal about their desire for a sequel having a time-skip equal to how much time has passed in the real world. However, that's not going to be the case.

IGN caught up with Disney Pixar chief John Lasseter at D23, who he confirmed that The Incredibles 2 will pick up right where the first one ended.

"It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on," said Lasseter, who specified that only  "a minute" will have passed between films. "It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that’s where start this movie."

Of course this news dashes the hopes of fans who wanted an equal amount of time to have lapsed since the film's 2004 release.  If you look around the internet, you'll see tons of fan art for adult versions of Dash, Violet and Jack Jack. Perhaps it's this very fan anticipation that led Disney and Pixar to go in the oppossite direction?

It seems that D23 concept art we glimpsed for the sequel last week was accurate after all.

Think Underminer will just be a cool opening villain/fight sequence, but there will be a bigger conflict

@ThePanther - Would be cool if it literally takes place after they put their masks on lol

@ThePanther - Or they trick us and time jump after that "13 years later"

@DJRock93 - thats what I think will happen. it will open like this with the battle and possibly some more information given before they jump 6-7 years. I think Jack-Jack would be amazing to see at the age Dash was in the first one.

That was one of the biggest cliffhangers I’m glad that they will continue it waiting since 2004.

I hope this one is Incredible(s) too.

(As in "incredible also" but it's a pun. I hope you get it.)

Toy Story 2 & 3 are real time sequels.
Cars 2 & 3 are real time sequels.
Monsters University is a prequel.
Finding Dory takes place a year after the first.
Now The Incredibles takes place a minute after the first.

Maybe it starts out with them fighting the Underminer as the prologue and then it switches to 10 years later. Much like how Toy Story 3 started out with a scene from Andy's childhood playtime.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - The first Incredibles film stayed by showing a young Mr. Incredible and Elasti-Girl

@Beetleborg - So true, I didn't even think of that.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I'm really hoping that's the case. If they set the whole story in that time right after the first film, my excitement for it will drop considerably. It's one thing to do that when you make the sequel within 5 years or so (like Toy Story 2) but when you have a gap like this, doing that makes it feel like the story came too late. Instead, you make use of that gap in a meaningful way like Toy Story 3. I have no interest in seeing the same family dynamic with another adventure. I want to see them in a completely different place in their lives.

Lets say we jump 10 years. Jak-Jak (who now hates that name and wants to be called Jax) is 10 and somewhat reminiscent of young Dash. Dash is a cocky college kid with a Johnny Storm vibe. Violet is out of school and may be engaged, signaling the start of her own life. There's really no team anymore. Violet has retired. Dash wants to be solo. This is a very different emotional situation to put Mr. Incredible in as he's aging and feels like he's losing his two older kids. They have to learn how to remain a family even as their lives begin to diverge.
