THE SIMPSONS Producer Names Upcoming Death The 'Yellow Wedding'

It was announced last year that the premiere episode of The Simpsons 26th season would feature the death of a well-known character.

In an interview with TV Line, Producer Al jean has shed some light on the upcoming death: "People who reported on it then reported we were killing an 'iconic' character; I'd like to say it's a great character, but I never used the word 'iconic'" Continuing: "It's a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year. But just because a character is dying, that doesn't mean he (or she) won't pop up in a future episode."

Comparing the death to Game of Thrones, Jean said: 'This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones - the Yellow Wedding!'

The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character.

Hank Azaria reassured fans that his characters are safe: "I honestly didn't know who it was going to be. And now I do know... I can say that it's not one of mine."

Sideshow Bob, Barney Gumble and Abe Simpson are all tipped as the character in question.

I was late catching up with GoT, but the Red Wedding made me shit myself out of shock.

I'm really curious to see who dies. I haven't watched a new episode since the last Halloween one, since I like watching those, but I'll have to check out this and Simpsorama.

"But just because a character is dying, that doesn't mean he (or she) won't pop up in a future episode"

So basically its a ratings stunt and this is going to be a pointless episode? If the character you kill can pop up in a future episode then it obviously isn't an important episode or a change that will affect anything In the long-run.

I get the feeling that they'll have an entire episode where Sideshow Bob essentially tries to murder Bart at a wedding and then a minor character will die of a heart attack or something - Hans Moleman would be the perfect choice though I can also see them killing off Sideshow Bob...

Grampa Simpson is too obvious, I'd say of the three Barney is probably going to be the one to get it.

They said it was a character whose voice actor/actress won an award for the performance.

So it's either Krusty's dad, Sideshow Bob, Princess Penelope, or someone else. My guess is Sideshow Bob sadly.

@Ultimate Warrior, they didn't remove the character, the voice actor just died. That's why we don't see Lionel Hutz anymore.

Should be a good episode. I bet it will be better than Red and Purple weddings.

They full on killed Maud Flanders a few years back, she has been seen as a ghost/angel and in dream sequences/flashbacks. Last season they killed off Fat Tony. He was replaced by Fit Tony, who gained a significant amount of weight by the end of the episode. My guess is were looking at Zombie Stu.
