I liked it but the best animated short i've seen recently was Paperman before wreck it ralph.Made me want to animate. Since the movie the animation in simpsons has been too perfect i miss the look the show used to have. Similar to how i feel about Family guy and the like.

Not too shabby, but I think the big problem with the Simpsons these days is that they're trying too damn hard to be sincere. I own seasons three through twelve on DVD, and it seems to me that back when the series was on a roll, they didn't take themselves so darn seriously. Old Simpsons episodes had an edge of cynicism and irreverence that the new ones just don't; sure, they'd usually end on an upbeat note, but they didn't bother sugar-coating everything like the new ones do.

The exact same thing happened to Ghostbusters. When it was just a straight satire and they didn't care about anything but making you laugh, they put out a movie that was hilarious from beginning to end. But when it turned into a franchise, they started taking the premise too seriously, turning the Ghostbusters into superheroes and cutting back on the jokes at their expense. The result was a lackluster sequel that's kept the franchise dead and buried for twenty-four years now.

As for this specific short, the background gags were pretty funny, but the main plot of this was just a bit too saccharine for me. Also, a lot of the charm of the original is lost when you use such high-quality animation to do it. Decent, but not great.
