After the unprecedented popularity of Pokemon GO, it was really only a matter of time before a live-action movie was officially announced, and it was recently confirmed that Legendary was set to team with The Pokemon Company for an adaptation of Great Detective Pikachu video game.

Now, That Hashtag Show reports that the studio might just be looking at some huge stars to provide the voice of the titular character.

According to them, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are all high on the list - although they do stress that none of them have actually taken any meetings about the role. If this is true, it definitely seems to suggest that Goosebumps director Rob Letterman and co. are looking to contrast Pikachu's adorable appearance with a more gruff-sounding voice, which would probably work quite well.

Anyway, this is just a rumor for now, but do you think any of these guys would be right for the role? Sound off below.

This excuse of a movie only got greenlit because of last year's success of Pokemon GO, and that pathetic fad is now (thankfully) a thing of the past, ever since people caught on to the notion that it became a means for crossfit-addicted idiots to approach the increasingly growing geek audience.

Good riddance to that "game", and soon enough to this "movie" too.

And I'm saying all that as someone who considers purchasing Ultra Sun in November.

@BreakTheCode -

I just hate this game's main audience, the same way the internet hates pseudo-geeky gamer girls. The type that catches on to a trend, as an excuse to promote themselves or attack others.

As long as the movie is dark & gritty....

Since when does Pikachu have the ability to say anything besides his own name?

No Danny DeVito? Why even bother.

Still looking forward to this though.

I always pictured Pikachu being voiced by a female. Not sure why the character has to be some A-list, male celebrity instead. Just seems absurd to me. And why even bother making this movie to begin with? If you're making a Pokemon film, why not make it an action/adventure with the characters from the original series? A proper live-action Pokemon movie could be HUGE. It could make Avatar-levels of money if they did a solid adaptation with superb VFX on the creatures, a well-rounded script and a likeable cast to boot. Oh well. Maybe they're just testing the waters for now with this Pikachu movie coming up first.

@thejon93rd - Because they're going to [frick] up that film anyway.
Better start small with a buddy cop movie that won't have to be faithful to its source material. Nobody will care if they [frick] this up.

@thejon93rd - Going off your avatar, Nancy Cartwright would be a great choice to play Pikachu. Her voice(s) could totally hit those old Pikachu notes but also have it's own originality.

@heisei24 - Good point. I couldn't care less about a standalone Pikachu movie. I just hope that it's successful enough to convince the studio(s) to move forward with a grander adventure in the near-future. I'd love to see these Pokemon translated to the big-screen. If they could pull it off, a Pokemon film could be truly epic and even a bit charming too.

@L0RDbuckethead - Oh, she'd be a phenomenal choice for Pikachu. Or any of the characters for that matter. Just bring in the entire cast of The Simpsons and you've got your movie did and done. :D
