Legendary Pictures has debuted the first official trailer and a new poster for upcoming live-action video game adaptation Detective Pikachu, which was recently re-branded as Pokemon: Detective Pikachu.

The footage introduces Tim (Justice Smith) who is searching for his long-lost father in a world where humans and pokemons coexist. Just when he's given up all hope of finding him, he gets some unexpected help from a little pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) who he can somehow understand.

In addition to Pikachu, there are appearances from various other Pokemon, including Psyduck, Squirtle, Mr. Mime and many more.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Does this look better than you expected, or have you zero interest in all things Pokemon?

Also starring Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Rita Ora and Bill Nighy, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is set to hit theaters on May 10, 2019.
