Ant-Man Script Is Apparently Still Being Worked On

According to a recent interview with Joe Cornish, he and Edgar Wright are still working on the Ant-Man script despite recently turning in a second draft.

Johnathan Smith, recently reported back in early April that Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright had just handed in their 2nd draft of the Ant-Man script. From that point forward reports on the movie were somewhat speculative, insinuating that the script was complete and that Marvel could greenlight the project any day now. Well in a recent interview with Hitfix, co-writer Joe Cornish revealed that he and Wright are apparently now working on the 3rd draft.

Cornish refused to speak on the record about the status of Ant-Man but he did state the following:

-Edgar Wright isn't the official director of the movie. It's a strong possibility but not set in stone.

-He and Edgar are still hard at work on the film, meaning that a 3rd draft is apparently in the works.

-Cornish went on to say that Ant-Man is Edgar's project and that he will leave all the big announcements to him.

Mark Cassidy reported a few days ago that the script could span a lengthy timeline and have several different actors put on the Ant-Man suit, including Hany Pym and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Eric O'Grady. At this point, there's no news as to what specifically Cornish and Wright are working on. Did Marvel not like the multiple Ant-Men angle? Or maybe the feedback the duo received from Marvel had to do with some Avengers or Avengers 2 plotlines? Perhaps the notes Marvel gave them were only about superficial items and we'll get an Ant-Man announcement sooner rather than later? We can only speculate at this point, but stay tuned to CBM as we'll provide an update as soon as we hear something.

Now, I was originally going to ask who should play Ant-Man but based on the latest reports of the movie potentially having several of them, I think I should ask, "Who should play Hank Pym?"

Ant-Man is the name of several fictional characters in the Marvel Comics Universe. Ant-Man was originally the superhero persona of Hank Pym, a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size. The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27.

After Pym retired his Ant-Man identity, successors Scott Lang and Eric O'Grady have used Pym's technology to take on the role of Ant-Man.

Edgar Wright plans to direct an action film for Marvel Studios with some humorous elements, insisting that Ant-Man will not be a comedy like Fantastic Four or a spoof. The script has been written by Wright and Joe Cornish, who plan to include Henry Pym and Scott Lang as major characters, with Pym as Ant-Man in the 1960s in Tales to Astonish style, and a flashforward to Lang as Ant-Man's successor in modern day.

I hope they give it a better title than just Ant Man...lame. Besides that I like how they are doing something with different version of the character over periods of time. I still think they should skip the film have him cameo in Iron Man III since they've already stated Iron Man III will start off the next saga leading up to Avengers II.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see an Ant-Man film working at all, especially out of context of an Avengers film.
Introduce him in the Avengers sequel, but for gods sakes don't do a solo film, the character cannot carry a solo story and the film would flop horribly.

He's still not the official director?!? THIS IS STUPID! Make him the director and get this movie done! Wright is the man. He will nail it.

Is anyone else getting as bored as I am about how long this movie is taking to get into production? I think we can expect Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2 all to come out before it!

I think either Aaron Eckhart or Nathan Fillion should play as Henry Pym. But if Nathan Fillion is going to play as Henry Pym, then he should try and get in shape for the role. But I'm leaning more towards Aaron Eckhart.

Also, when they said that there'll be more than one Ant-Man, does that mean that there will be more than one guy suiting up as Ant-Man? If so, then they should just stick with the original Ant-Man, Henry Pym, and they'll have some cameos of the other Ant-Men. In the Ant-Man movie, he should be introduced only as Ant-Man, then in Avengers 2 he'll be Giant-Man, then in Avengers 3, he'll take his new identity as Yellowjacket. It'll be perfect!

There are so many characters that Marvel can use for movie production that have better solo appeal. Pym is better off in an Avengers movie, not his own

I don't think they'll risk lauching both Strange and Ant-Man alone on the same year. Other established franchise will come along.

And for those who think this one can't work, all I can say is that ANY hero can work. It all depends on how good the story/script is. As I see most DC characters would be hard to transcribe, but I think any of them can have a great debut in Hollywood given the right production.

@Intruder I agree with you there, man. In the An-Man movie, they'll introduce both Ant-Man and Wasp, and in the movie Henry Pym will build Ultron and from there, this movie will be a buil-up to the second Avengers movie. And then in the third Avengers movie, they'll introduce Vision. Oh, MAN!!! I'm so excited!!

I believe that this movie WILL work because it'll open a lot of storylines for different heroes and villains that can be introduced to the big screen. For instance, Ant-Man movie = Wasp and Ant-Man, Ant-Man = Ultron, Ultron = The Vision, and Ultron+The Vision = AVENGERS 2, BABY!!!!!!!!!!

Or maybe in the Ant-Man movie, he can be introduced as both Ant-Man and Giant-Man; just like the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' Henry Pym. I hope that they'll have his "Ant Mask" in this movie, and make it look like the one in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!!!!!

I feel sorry for these guys! The trouble with the MCU is it is such a organic, flexible creative process that everytime a script is ready Fiege probably gives them a call and says "Err guys...there's been a few changes"

Having said that a 3rd draft is nothing in the world of hollywood. Most films go through between about 20 - 30 drafts.

Reports since day one had the Scott Lang Ant-Man with a retired Pym in his 60s serving as mentor...these guys are all too young. Of course, I'd love it if that concept was scrapped and they just kept Pym as the modern (and only) Ant-Man...

You might be right... 2014 sounds about right. Although didn't Feige say that the Cap sequel might be released that same year? Unless we might have 3 MS films with Cap, Ant-man, and then Dr. Strange. I'm not complaining it's just crazy to even think these films are being made.

I never get what everyone is complaining about him having a solo. Hank Pym's caused too much hazard in the comics for him to need a solo.

Oh, and I'd say 2014 would be an alright year since we haven't heard what DC are up to with their movies and most of them came out 1-2 years before that year.

Maybe in a S.H.E.I.L.D. movie, have Nick Fury, Colson, and the gang exploring the world. Pym as a protagonist with Wasp, include other small characters. It could be like an X-Men movie haha! Maybe Vision too..... Mmmmmaaaaaaybe

idk if audiences will care to see a minature size hero...it sounds like a kid movie, i agree it should be more about hank pym and maybe focus on both giant man/ant man. How could a superhero the size of an ant stand up with thunder gods, green monsters and iron man? thats probably why they left him out the avengers.

I respect Edgar Wright to the upmost but, his handling of Ant-Man has been comparable to how Nolan controls Batman.

According to Edgar, his Ant-Man flick wont go along with the timeline that has already been set up in the MCU. Nolan has said things along the same lines as that when talking about interweaving his Batman with the the rest of the could-be DCU.

I guess I just don't understand why Wright's keeping Ant-Man so close to his chest. If he really wants to do his "amazing" take on this character then fine, do it. But the fact that it's taking so long for Marvel to get their hands on a finished story for Ant-Man makes me think what the [frick] is up Edgar Wrights' ass about this movie.

End Rant :P
