Ant-Man and The Wasp is a fun sequel to one of Marvel Studios' most underrated releases and as well as bringing back plenty of fan-favourite characters, the movie puts the spotlight on some newcomers as well. However, while some of these heroes and villains are given the chance to shine, others sadly fall by the wayside or fail to make a significant enough impact to leave you wanting more of them.

What we're looking at here then is all of the movie's main characters and ranking them from worst to best. Taking into account everything from the amount of screentime they received to just how memorable their roles in Ant-Man and The Wasp were, we think you'll find this list makes for very interesting reading. So to take a look for yourselves, just click on the "View List" button for more.

10. Janet Van Dyne

I would never have imagined placing Janet Van Dyne so low on this list but her role in the sequel is so brief and unsatisfying, last place sadly seems most fitting. She doesn't show up until the very end of Ant-Man and The Wasp and doesn't really do much beyond healing Ghost with powers which are never explained after spending three decades in the Quantum Realm without ever offering an explanation about how she survived. The character has potential but we may not see that until Ant-Man 3.

9. Cassie Lang

The young Abby Ryder Fortson is really given the opportunity to show off her talents in Ant-Man and The Wasp and it's easy to imagine her having a bright future (and faring a lot better than Chloe Grace Moretz has since starring in Kick-Ass). With any luck, that's going to play out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a lot of hints are dropped here about the possibility of Scott Lang's daughter becoming Stature, something it will obviously be very satisfying to play out on screen over the next decade.

8. Sonny Burch

Walton Goggins is a fantastic actor and while he's not playing the villain many comic book fans would have liked to see (as in a true big bad who comes to blows with Scott Lang), he does exactly what's required of him as the black market arms dealer looking to secure Hank Pym's Quantum Realm tech. He's given a lot of funny lines and delivers a strong performance but it's somewhat unlikely you'll be desperate to see more of him as it's hard to imagine the character doing much more in the MCU.

7. X-Con

I've lumped Luis, Dave, and Kurt into the same group here because they all receive around the same amount of screentime. Dave gets almost completely overlooked but Kurt has some fun moments and it goes without saying that Luis steals the show. It's just unfortunate that after he emerged as a breakout character in Ant-Man that Marvel Studios decided against giving something more substantial to do here! With any luck, that will change if and when a third instalment of the franchise reaches theaters

6. Bill Foster

Bill Foster is predictably revealed as a villain of sorts in Ant-Man and The Wasp but the fact he's such a layered character really goes a long way in making him stand out from so many other secondary bad guys in the MCU. Clearly conflicted about his actions, Foster may have that one moment where he lays out his plan like a typical villain but it doesn't take long until we realise he's a good man in a very tough position. It's just a shame we never get to see him adopt his Goliath persona to fight Scott Lang.

5. Ghost

Ghost isn't your typical villain because her backstory is so tragic and her actions are actually understandable seeing as she has only weeks left to live. Visually, she's a lot of fun to watch and Hannah John-Kamen delivers a solid if not quite star-making performance in the sequel. The stage is clearly being set for her to become an ally to Ant-Man and The Wasp down the line and that's obviously going to be interesting to watch play out because there's a lot which could be done with her.

4. Hank Pym

Despite saying that shrinking could be fatal to him in 2015's Ant-Man, Hank Pym travels to the Quantum Realm in the sequel for one of the movie's most satisfying sequences. Between his reunion with Janet Van Dyne and the way he treats Scott throughout the course of this adventure as their relationship is slowly repaired following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Michael Douglas does a lot of great work here. Now, when are we finally going to see him meet The Avengers?

3. Jimmy Woo

Randall Park is a great actor and always a lot of fun to watch so it probably won't surprise you to learn that he's awesome here as FBI agent Jimmy Woo. While he's not playing an entirely faithful version of his comic book counterpart, his interactions with Scott Lang prove to be a highlight and it's hard not to finish the sequel desperate to see more of the character. He's funny, hugely likeable, and Park's chemistry with Rudd is a highlight. Here's hoping he pops up before Ant-Man 3 is released in Phase 4.

2. Ant-Man

Paul Rudd is once again fantastic as Scott Lang and while it's a little disappointing that he's spent the past two years at home having nothing to do with Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne, it's easy enough to understand his actions when we learn he was just putting his daughter first. His story arc is extremely satisfying but his best moments arguably come when he transforms into Giant-Man as those are just so much fun. Now, here's hoping he's given plenty to do in Avengers 4 next year, especially after that ending.

1. The Wasp

Who else was it going to be? The first female superhero to receive top billing in a Marvel Studios movie, The Wasp is amazing from start to finish and she steals the show both in terms of action scenes and how things play out between her and her family. After this, it's essential that Hope Van Dyne is given the opportunity to step out of Ant-Man's shadow and be her own her in a future Avengers movie because she's absolutely brilliant and a delight to watch throughout the course of the sequel.

How would you rank Ant-Man and The Wasp's main characters? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on  both that and this ranking in the comments section down below.

After I saw the Wasp in action, I'm all in for a female super hero Marvel movie.

Same, I'm cool with her leading the Avengers, but I'd also be down for her co-leadimg the 'New Valkeries' with Scrapper

Ghost needs to be in a thunderbolts movie, i would love her and zemo team up. Marvel is killing it with villains this year.

@ExpertlyMediocr - A lot of people want thunderbolt ross, but i think that is too close to the suicide squad. So someone like hammer who wants something stolen and ends up telling the team to do something good would be much better in my opinion.

@ExpertlyMediocr - Maybe ross tracks them down or something, but i do prefer a team that comes togethor through concidence, in hopes of money and other things.

Still, why else would they be called thunderbolts, if not from thunderbolt ross.

@AngryCipher

I wasn’t a huge fan of Ghost. Kind of regret not seeing the movie in 3D because her effects looked cool. I just thought the character was a little one note. I also didn’t get why Bill Foster didn’t consult with Hank about finding a cure. I know they had a falling out but I feel like they didn’t have to go through with kidnapping and scheming.

Scott and Janet were my MVPs this go around.

@regularmovieguy - When you have weeks to live and your life is flickering you do all types of crazy stuff. As do your parents.

@AngryCipher

That may be the case (I can buy into that, dug the scene where Foster refused to help her if she kidnapped Cassie). But I found Ghost one-note and Foster underdeveloped.

@AngryCipher - we NEED Taskmaster in the MCU as soon as possible. I would put him on the team.

At this point, just toss him wherever. I could see him debuting in the Black Widow solo or maybe the BP sequel.

@BlackBeltJones - If they could bring back Klaue and Crossbones. They'd be great in that team. Maybe when they bring back the dead from Infinity War, there's also a curse with it by bringing back dead Villains!

I don't think having Ghost on Thunderbolts would be wise with the direction they're going with here. I much rather see Thunderbolt creating his own superteam from imprisoned enhanced individuals. Like Zemo, Abomination, Samuel Sterns and maybe even Hammer.

But just like in the comics I want them to be the masters of evil in disguise. So in that case, I don't really see her in a Thunderbolts team-up. Now for that all-female team-up, that could possibly work
CaptainElrond
CaptainElrond - 7/10/2018, 6:25 AM
@MalseMarcel - I disagree. I want the team to have bad villains, bad-ish villains and anti heroes.

Ghost would be perfect for the variety.

Lol did you really group Luis with Dave & Kurt? How would Luis not be in the top 3 or 4? Cmon man. I liked Woo but Luis was clearly a better character.

In regards to Cassie - it's easy to imagine her having a bright future((and faring a lot better than Chloe Grace Moretz has since starring in Kick-Ass).

Not gonna let this one slide, Chloe Grace Moretz has had a hell of career especially for her age, and your dig at her comes from a place of extreme ignorance
