Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania looks set to be an Avengers-level movie, with Scott Lang pitted against the MCU's new big bad Kang the Conqueror.
We've seen Ant-Man take a vicious beating from the time-travelling Variant in the movie's trailers, with many fans concerned the hero won't make it out of this adventure alive. Paul Rudd has been part of the MCU since 2015, so it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility that the actor might be ready to bid farewell to the role after an eight-year stint.
During a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via The Direct), Rudd admitted that Scott and Hope Van Dyne "[are] in a situation where it feels like, 'Oh they're in way over their heads. How is this possibly going to end well?'"
As for whether Ant-Man will survive this clash with Kang, Rudd teased: "I think there's more story to tell here." Pushed on the odds of Scott being part of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, he added, "They're having those conversations in rooms that I don't have keys to."
The threequel is clearly going to be a high-stakes blockbuster, and one that's vastly different from both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp. In a comparison that's bound to raise some eyebrows, Rudd compared the movie to 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.
"I really didn’t have time to do it, but we kept talking during the process. I kept thinking about 'Thor: Ragnarok,' where it was like, 'Whoa, we can’t believe this is the third one, it seems so different.' There was something appealing about doing something unexpected."
We can't wait to see how the movie comes together, and we'll soon get a better idea of what to expect. The social media embargo lifts on February 6 at 9.00pm PT, while the first reviews will be published on February 14 at 9.00am PT.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is set to be released on February 17.
