Are you ready to see Kang battle Kang this weekend? Okay, it's actually more like Jonathan Majors vs. Jonathan Majors as Creed III puts on its gloves to go head-to-head with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania at the domestic box office.
Majors has a, well, major role in both movies, playing Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Studios' latest blockbuster and a rival boxer to Michael B. Jordan's Apollo Creed in the third instalment of that franchise. According to Variety (via ActioNewz.com), Creed III has the edge and looks set to emerge from this fight with the win.
The trade explains that the movie is on course to earn a trilogy-best $36 million - $40 million this weekend, with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania trailing behind with $16 million - $19 million. It's worth noting that movie is in its third weekend of release, and has already grossed $170 million domestically and $366 million worldwide.
The first Creed movie debuted to $29.6 million, with the sequel hitting $35.5 million. Reviews for this third chapter have been very positive, whereas the latest Ant-Man adventure suffered a big second-weekend drop amid a surprising number of poor verdicts from critics.
Also heading to theaters this weekend is Guy Ritchie's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, though that's only expected to earn around $5 million.
Reviews for that one have been a little mixed, but we concluded ours by noting, "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is an enjoyable Guy Ritchie romp hampered by an all-too-familiar story but redeemed by explosive action and one of Jason Statham’s most swagger-filled performances to date as Bond-beater Orson Fortune."
Scream VI is will be released next week, so it will be interesting to see how that fares. A busy March will then roll on with Shazam! Fury of the Gods following on March 17.
