David Dastmalchian Praises Marvel And His 'Incredible' Experience Filming ANT-MAN

Will David Dastmalchian's character in Ant-Man appear in future "Phase Three" Marvel Studios movies? The Dark Knight actor responds and praises the production and the studio after the jump!

He's best known in the comic book movie community for The Dark Knight, but David Dastmalchian will be playing a bigger supporting role in Ant-Man next year. And while promoting his independent film Animals at the 2014 Virginia Film Festival, the actor was asked about his mystery character in the "Phase Two" Marvel movie and whether he will appear in "Phase Three" of the shared cinematic universe. "Well, your guess is as mine unfortunately," Dastmalchian told ReelFilmNews before gushing about his Ant-Man experience. "I wish that I knew, but I will say that...[Ant-Man] is obviously not an independent film, it's a huge studio film. But I've had an incredible experience working on that movie. I will [also] say that - I've been doing this for a little while, so I still feel like I'm new at being in films and working in film - but there is something about being around a group of people that are absolutely in love with their job and love what they're creating. Whether it's working on [Animals], which is what we were with a crew of 15 people, or working on this huge kind of epic Marvel film with this incredible star [Paul Rudd] and other stars in it, it's been just an incredible experience. And I hope that I get to be involved in the future of that world because I've had so much fun doing it. It's been a blast!"

Like several other supporting roles in Ant-Man, David Dastmalchian's character is still a big mystery. However, he and Clifford "T.I." Harris were both included in a set photo from Instagram with the caption describing them as "criminals." However, T.I. has already described his character as being one of four ex-cons in Scott Lang's crew. Furthermore, actor Michael Pena, who plays a Security Guard at Pym Technologies in Ant-Man, notably name-dropped Dastmalchian during a previous interview  and said he was a good actor, and very funny in the movie. What do you think?

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris, John Slattery and Gregg Turkington with multi-hyphenate T.I., and the film will release July 17, 2015

I don't understand why everyone doubts this film. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

The only way Ant-Man will work is if it's unashamedly fun.

@Minty Preach. Heroes like Ant-Man, Superman, The Flash, Guardians need to be fun.

I'm so curious about this movie.

In before Fougio comments: BAN HIM! HE'S A DC TROLL!

I have doubts of course, particularly Rudd. I mean, why him out of everyone (especially pushed up against a name like JGL) I don't understand. But the concept of the film is still fun and has potential.

One joke in a Marvel film and people will get riled up either way.

TWS barely had any yet among the (exaggerated, of course) complaints is about the supposed amount of jokes.

Pena described him as funny? in an MCU flick? NO WAY! does not compute I repeat does not compute!

kidding aside, I don't know why people have a problem with the fact this will probably be more on the Thor: TDW side of humor where it's put in every couple of minutes to keep the audience from believing there's actual story going on, I have my hopes in the deepest part of my mind but Pym getting the short end of the stick (pun intended) is complete bullshit, I bet Lang won't even get substitute avenger role when all is said and done.

@Dingbat I'm hesitant about it because I don't think Peyton Reed is a good director. I still hope it's decent.

still, despite my hate, I will more than be happy to eat crow in 2015 if this is good, but this film dissapoints me at every turn in news I hear, besides yellowjacket, THAT's at least a silver lining in this even if it does suck

@Reasonnnn - Absolutely. Each CBM property requires its own unique tone, regardless of the studio. Ant-Man should be just as much fun as The Flash, while I'd love to see a black comedy take on The Suicide Squad.
JAC

@Reasonnnn Because too much fun in the face of high stakes can be bad for a movie's tone (Thor: The Dark World is my example).

It's come to a point where people are unconsciously blaming Marvel Studios for FF1, 2, SM3 and both Ghost Rider movies.

@Annubis My thoughts exactly.
FordEl

Not all are fun. Most comics dont try hard to be funny and just puts its there for it to be there. Perfectly timed and appropriate and actually funny works. Like Gone Girl for example. It was a dark movie but had dark hunor sprinkled in and it worked because they were good one-liners and they didnt try so hard. Theres a balance movies that it has that Marvel lacks.

What about Lex Luthor now?
CaptainObvious
CaptainObvious - 11/30/2014, 3:53 PM
My fear is that the fact that Wright leaving the film due to creative differences and Reed, whose resume is anything but impressive, was brought on two months before filming began will result in a film that is butchered by studio meddling. I don't want a movie that is more in vein with the rest of the MCU if it means a fantastic, unique film has to be sacrificed.
