Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN May Have Already Been Given The Green Light

A reliable source indicates that the word around this year's Cannes Film Festival is that Marvel Studios have finally given Ant-Man the green light! Not a lot of details for now, but read on for details.

News on Ant-Man (from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz writer and director Edgar Wright) was slow for a while, but the success of Marvel's The Avengers and some hints from both Kevin Feige and Edgar Wright himself - find that HERE - reignited interest in the long talked about adaptation. Well, @TwitchFilm has revealed something very interesting indeed, as you can see from the Tweet below.

Wright is currently teaming up with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for At World's End, but some have already speculated that he will start shooting Ant-Man for Marvel either at the end of this year or sometime during 2013 (putting it on track to be the mystery 2014 release from the studio). This is a reliable source and the Cannes Film Festival seems like a fitting location for news like this to hit. With rumours like this now kicking off, here's hoping it spurs Disney and Marvel Studios to finally make an official announcement.

^read about the origin of ultron to see ant-man's great mind and tortured soul...he's an iactually an interesting character when you put aside the bug stuff.

I was hoping to see Dr. Strange. Ant-man could be potentially great. I don't want ti too serious but if it's too jokey it risks getting close to -honey-shrunk-the-kids territory. It's a fine line to walk. I hope they use or lead in to Ultron

I thought Antman was green light but it was Wright dragging his feet.

I hope this leads to a Giant-Man in the Avengers 2.

I can't see how 'ANT-MAN' would appeal to an audience outside the comics....

I personally haven't read much on this character myself, so don't know how big (no pun intended) a deal he is. Many members on this site seem to favour him, so i'll probs end up watching it. Doubtful for now....

I don't understand it. The guy has been working on the screeenplay for almost 10 years. They get together a team of comedy writers to write the story of one of the most serious and tragic characters in Avengers history. And they have come out and said that the story will only partially feature Hank Pym....WHY?????? Why Why Why????? I think this is going to be another Electra and it could be a masterpiece. Without Pym there would be no Ultron. Without Pym there would be no Ant Man, Giant Man, Yellowjacket, Goliath....and no Avengers. Please Marvel do this story justice and correct the original error and bring him onboard for Avengers 2. And don't let this guy mess up Antman......its not a friggin comedy!!!!!!!!!

Ant-Man is a great and interesting ] character, the problem is his name, non fans will thinh he's pathetic, that's why i prefer Pym as Giant-man, it's more useful for the Avengers and more marketable.

But after this huge success with the avengers, only the fact that this movie will have the name avenger on the poster will guarantee a good box office. So whatever

How many movies do Fox, Sony, Paramount, WB and other film studios release a year? I'm asking this because Marvel studios is a major film company now, out to make movies. I'm really hoping that Thor 2 does well in the winter 2013 so that Marvel will move on to 3 films a year (spring/summer, summer, fall/winter). If they do then we can count on Ant-man being filmed along with Cap 2 for spring/summer release of '14 and mayyyybe get another film done for the winter (Doctor Strange anyone?).

Why are people so against ANT-MAN? Just imagine the visual possibilities alone. We've come a long way since "Honey I shrunk The Kids" and that movie was a blast as a kid. Everyone wanted to ride an Ant or water slide of blades of grass after seeing that movie.

Are we really doubting Marvel and Wright's ability to make an awesome and successful movie? Some of you over-simplify Ant-Man's ability. That lack of imagination is why you'll never make movies. Can we just appreciate Marvel for spending millions (of THEIR money) on making a movie on a NEW character to the big screen. You'll get Ultron and Vision in result.

But I guess some of you doubted Thor's marketability.

COMEDY?!?!?!?

i could see him shrinking through most of the movie and gaining the super size at the end. they could spin it off him trying to use it to fight global hunger in regards to the growing, and shrinking for tech reasons, like quantum computers etc. the name ant-man could be a running joke through the film

I'm so psyched for this.
And this would be in addition to the mystery 2014 film. Keven Feige said in an interview Marvel wants to do two films per year, sometimes three if certain directors are ready to go on a project, citing 2014 as an example of three possible films depending on Edgar Wright's schedule. The other film is likely Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Strange.

If you watch "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes"-- I think Ant-Man will be like that. Either way, Marvel will make it work. Henry Pym is an important player in Phase Two, they've been holding off on him for a reason.
NJdevil12
NJdevil12 - 5/19/2012, 1:09 PM
I like the idea of him getting the Giant-Man powers at the end, maybe as an after credits scene?

have him working in his lab and then we juts see his shadow begin to grow.

or, show him working on Ultron. Mention Shield wanting something they can control, on the Avengers team. then in Avengers 2 Ultron becomes the villain, and creates Vision in the process.

Please, can't wait for it, and maybe if he joins avengers 2 we have a concept of both Ant-Man/Giant Man at same time(like on Avengers EMH which had that concept and worked perfectly!)

So they dealt with the alcohol thing in IM by not including it. Hopefuly they will do the same with Ant-Man's abuse of women (and not very heroic especially for Disney).
